Introduction
Zoxiclav Dry Syrup is an antibiotic medicine that helps treat bacterial infections of the ear, nose, throat, chest, lungs, teeth, skin, and urinary tract. It is capable of killing bacteria that have become resistant to other therapies and thus also helps treat tuberculosis that is resistant to other treatments.
Directions for Use
Your child must complete the entire course of antibiotics. Stopping too soon may cause the bacteria to multiply again or cause another infection.
How it works
Zoxiclav Dry Syrup is an antibiotic. It has two active agents amoxycillin and clavulanic acid. Amoxycillin works by preventing the formation of the bacterial protective covering (cell wall) essential for the survival of the bacteria. Whereas clavulanic acid serves a special purpose of inhibiting an enzyme (beta-lactamase) that is produced by resistant bacteria. This makes the combination of amoxycillin and clavulanic acid an effective line of treatment for many types of infections.
Quick Tips
Your child must complete the entire course of antibiotics. Stopping too soon may cause the bacteria to multiply again or cause another infection. Your child may have a bitter taste in the mouth after the intake of Zoxiclav Dry Syrup. Eating citrus fruit or sipping plenty of water or fruit juice may help. Encourage your child to drink plenty of water in case diarrhea develops as a side effect. Never give Zoxiclav Dry Syrup until and unless prescribed by the doctor. Never share your child’s medicine with anyone else even if they show similar symptoms. Do not give Zoxiclav Dry Syrup to treat common cold and flu-like symptoms caused by viruses. Never save medicine for future illnesses. It cannot be said whether the same medicine will work on future infections. Check ‘expiry’ before giving Zoxiclav Dry Syrup to your child. Immediately discard all the expired medicines. Stop Zoxiclav Dry Syrup immediately if your child develops an itchy rash, facial swelling, or breathing difficulty. Report to the doctor without any delay.

Frequently asked questions
Can other medicines be taken at the same time as Zoxiclav Dry Syrup?
Zoxiclav Dry Syrup may interact with other medications or substances. It's essential to inform your child's doctor about any other medicines they are taking before starting Zoxiclav Dry Syrup. Additionally, always consult your child's doctor for guidance on administering medication to your child.
Can I get my child vaccinated while on treatment with Zoxiclav Dry Syrup?
Antibiotics typically don't interfere with vaccine ingredients or cause adverse reactions in a child who has recently received a vaccination. However, it's advisable to avoid administering vaccines before the illness is fully resolved. Once your child feels better, the doctor can schedule the vaccine administration.
Which lab tests may my child undergo while taking Zoxiclav Dry Syrup on a long-term basis?
For long-term therapy, the doctor may periodically monitor kidney and liver function tests to assess your child's condition.
Can I give a higher than the recommended dose of Zoxiclav Dry Syrup to my child?
Giving a dosage higher than what is recommended for this medicine can increase the likelihood of experiencing side effects. If your child experiences worsening symptoms, consult your doctor before re-evaluating their treatment.
Can I stop giving Zoxiclav Dry Syrup to my child when the symptoms are relieved?
No, do not discontinue this medication without completing the full course of prescribed treatment. Even if you feel better, it is crucial to complete the entire treatment period as stopping prematurely might leave your child's body susceptible to incompletely treated infection.
Can the use of Zoxiclav Dry Syrup cause diarrhea?
Yes, Zoxiclav Dry Syrup may cause diarrhea. This is because the medication works by killing bacteria in the body. While some bacteria might be beneficial to your child’s gut, antibiotics can disrupt their balance and cause this side effect. Encourage your child to drink plenty of fluids if they experience diarrhea. If symptoms persist or you notice signs of dehydration (like less frequent urination with dark-colored and strong-smelling urine), consult your doctor before administering any other medication.
Do all viral common colds result in secondary bacterial infection?
While the majority of viral infections do not follow secondary bacterial infections, it is advisable to consult your child's doctor if you have concerns or are unsure about the best course of treatment.
The mucus coming out of my child’s nose is yellow-green. Is this a sign of a bacterial infection?
Yellow or green nasal discharge isn't necessarily indicative of a bacterial infection, particularly during a common cold. It is normal for the color to change from clear to yellow or green as symptoms progress. While these changes are typical, it is always recommended to consult your child's doctor if you experience any concerns.
Is there any sign which shows that my child needs immediate medical attention?
Contact your child's doctor right away if they experience serious allergic reactions (breathing difficulties, skin rashes), gastrointestinal infections (diarrhea), or signs of liver damage (weakness, paleness, vomiting). While these side effects are rare, they need prompt medical attention to ensure proper treatment.
