Frequently asked questions
Can I take Zolop 20mg Capsule with domperidone?
Zolop 20mg Capsule and domperidone can be safely taken together, as there have been no reported harmful effects in clinical trials. A fixed-dose combination of these two medications is also available.
What should I know before taking Zolop 20mg Capsule?
Do not take it if you are already using a medicine containing atazanavir and nelfinavir (used for HIV infection). Inform your doctor if you have any liver problems, persistent diarrhea or vomiting, black stools (blood-stained stools), unusual weight loss, trouble swallowing, stomach pain, or indigestion. Tell your doctor about all other medicines you are taking as they might interact with this medicine. Also, inform your doctor of any allergic skin reactions you may have had to this medication. This medication is not recommended for children under 1 year old or those weighing less than 10 kg.
Can Zolop 20mg Capsule cause diarrhea?
Yes, some people experience diarrhea as a side effect of this medicine. This is usually not severe but if you have persistent watery stools with stomach cramps and fever, seek medical help immediately.
For how long can Zolop 20mg Capsule be taken?
Take it for the duration advised by your doctor. The length of use may vary depending on your condition. Do not stop taking this medication without consulting your doctor.
Can Zolop 20mg Capsule cause calcium deficiency and osteoporosis?
Yes, it can contribute to bone thinning (osteoporosis). This is because it decreases calcium absorption leading to a risk of calcium deficiency. This increases the chance of fractures in long-term use, like hip, wrist, or spine fractures. Inform your doctor about existing osteoporosis or history of corticosteroid use before starting this medication. Consult them for strategies to prevent bone thinning and consider additional calcium or vitamin D supplements.
What are the long term side effects of Zolop 20mg Capsule?
Long-term use (more than 3 months) may bring about certain side effects: low magnesium levels in your blood can lead to fatigue, confusion, dizziness, or feeling shaky. You may experience muscle twitches or irregular heartbeat too. If used for over a year, there is an increased risk of fractures (due to decreased calcium levels), especially in the hip, wrist, and spine. Stomach infections, and vitamin B12 deficiency might also occur. Vitamin B12 deficiency can lead to anemia, making you feel tired, weak, or pale, and can cause palpitations, shortness of breath, lightheadedness, indigestion, loss of appetite, flatulence (gas), or nerve problems such as numbness, tingling, or difficulty walking.
Does Zolop 20mg Capsule cause vitamin deficiencies?
It may contribute to vitamin B12 and vitamin C deficiency. When taken orally, vitamin B12 requires an acidic environment in the stomach for its absorption while this medicine causes a decrease in gastric acid secretion. This might require you to take supplementary vitamin B12. The clinical significance of the decrease in vitamin C levels is not well-studied, so supplementing with vitamin C isn't recommended.
Can Zolop 20mg Capsule be used in cardiac patients?
Patients with cardiac disease can take this medication under strict doctor supervision. However, it might interact with certain drugs (e.g., clopidogrel and digoxin) which are commonly prescribed to people with existing heart conditions. Close monitoring by a doctor is necessary if these medications are used together.
