Key Information

Short Description

Ziyof M Syrup is a medicine used to treat bacterial infections of the teeth, lungs, gastrointestinal tract, urinary tract, and genital tract in children.

Dosage Form

Syrup

Introduction

Ziyof M Syrup is a combination of three active ingredients: ofloxacin, metronidazole, and simethicone. It is used to treat bacterial infections in children. The antibiotic ingredients interfere with the genetic material of bacteria by impairing its DNA, killing the infection-causing bacteria and preventing its growth and stopping the infection. Simethicone binds with gas bubbles produced as a result of the other two ingredients or as a result of some other problem, aiding in the removal of gases and providing relief in stomach pain and bloating.

Quick Tips

Diarrhea is a common side effect of this medicine. If it occurs, make sure your child drinks plenty of water. Eating citrus fruit or sipping plenty of water or fruit juice may help if your child has an altered taste or furry tongue after taking Ziyof M Syrup. Do not give any calcium, magnesium, iron, vitamin, or antacid within 2 hours of taking Ziyof M Syrup as these can affect the absorption of the medicine. Never use this medicine for the common cold and flu as they are caused by viruses and Ziyof M Syrup treats only bacterial infections. Discontinue Ziyof M Syrup and inform the doctor immediately if your child develops a rash, itchy skin, swelling of face and mouth, or has difficulty in breathing. Only give Ziyof M Syrup to your child for their current infection. Never save medicine for future illnesses.

What if I give an overdose of Ziyof M Syrup by mistake?

An accidental overdose is unlikely to cause harm. However, if you suspect your child has taken too much, immediately contact a doctor. Overdose may cause unwanted side effects like seizures, tremors, severe headache, sudden weakness, blood cell abnormalities, and rapid or irregular heartbeat.

If your child does not improve after completing the full dosage of Ziyof M Syrup, it may indicate the medication is ineffective against the cause of their symptoms. Consult with a doctor who might prescribe a different antibiotic with greater efficacy against the disease-causing bacteria.

Can other medicines be given at the same time as Ziyof M Syrup?

Inform your doctor about any other medications your child is taking before starting Ziyof M Syrup. Additionally, it's crucial to seek advice from your child’s doctor regarding administering any new medication.

Antibiotics generally do not interfere with vaccine ingredients or cause a negative reaction in children recently vaccinated. However, children on antibiotics should not be vaccinated until they are fully recovered from their illness.

My child has been passing red-brown urine ever since he started taking Ziyof M Syrup? Is it normal?
