Zinnia Life Sciences
Acarbose (50mg)
Zinicarb 50mg Tablet is used to treat people with type 2 diabetes mellitus. It helps lower blood sugar levels after meals.
Tablet
Zinicarb 50mg Tablet should be taken just before or along with the first few bites of the meal. The dose and how often you need it will be decided by your doctor so that you get the right amount to control your blood sugar levels. It may be increased gradually. Do not stop taking it without consulting your doctor. If you do, your blood sugar levels may increase and put you at risk of serious complications like kidney damage and blindness. This medicine is only part of a treatment program that should also include a healthy diet, regular exercise, and weight reduction as advised by your doctor. Monitor your blood sugar levels regularly while taking this medicine.
Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Zinicarb 50mg Tablet is to be taken with food.
Zinicarb 50mg Tablet is an anti-diabetic medicine. It inhibits the intestinal enzymes responsible for breaking complex sugars into simple sugars such as glucose. This prevents blood glucose levels from rising very high immediately after meals.
Along with your regular doctor visit you might also need regular check-ups with an eye clinic and a foot clinic as well. Your doctor will also advise you to test for sugar in your blood using a home diabetes test kit regularly to check that your sugar level is being controlled. Along with a healthy diet, indulge in light exercises regularly and quit smoking and drinking. If you feel excessively thirsty, pass urine more frequently, and get tired easily, then let your doctor know. These are the signs of very high sugar levels in your blood and your treatment may need adjusting. Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar level) may occur if Zinicarb 50mg Tablet is taken along with other antidiabetic medicines, alcohol, or on delaying/skipping a meal. Check your blood sugar levels and have a snack/sugar source for immediate relief.
Zinicarb 50mg Tablet does not cause hypoglycemia on its own, although it can slightly decrease blood sugar levels. However, combined with other antidiabetic medications or insulin may lead to a drop in blood sugar levels. If this happens, consult your healthcare professional, who may adjust your medication dosage accordingly.
Zinicarb 50mg Tablet hinders the breakdown of carbohydrates in the body, leading to undigested carbohydrates accumulating in the colon. This accumulation triggers bacterial fermentation, resulting in intestinal gas, and ultimately causing flatulence and abdominal discomfort.
Yes, diarrhea is a common side effect of Zinicarb 50mg Tablet. However, this isn't experienced by everyone. Certain food containing carbohydrates like cane sugar can trigger diarrhea and severe abdominal pain. If the diarrhea persists or becomes severe, seek immediate medical help.
Zinicarb 50mg Tablet should be taken with your meals and swallowed whole with water or chewed with the first mouthful of food. The initial dose is generally twice daily, but it's recommended to gradually increase this to thrice daily as advised by your healthcare professional.
If you miss a dose of Zinicarb 50mg Tablet, skip it and wait for the scheduled time. You should not take an extra dose or double-up on your medication.
Consuming a dosage exceeding the recommended amount may lead to temporary flatulence, diarrhea, and abdominal discomfort. It's recommended to abstain from meals or drinks containing carbohydrates for at least 4-6 hours after consuming this medication.
Individuals with allergies to Zinicarb 50mg Tablet, severe liver disease, or inflammation/ulceration of the intestine (e.g., Crohn's Disease), should avoid taking this medication. Additionally, its use is restricted in patients experiencing intestinal obstruction (cramping pain, vomiting, constipation, and lack of flatus) along with those with a large hernia or an intestinal condition where food isn’t digested or absorbed properly. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should also abstain from using Zinicarb 50mg Tablet.
