Zelgor 250mg Tablet is used in the treatment of cancer of the prostate gland. It may be also used to treat other conditions, as determined by the doctor. It is sometimes used with certain other medicines as part of combination chemotherapy.
Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Zelgor 250mg Tablet is to be taken empty stomach.
Zelgor 250mg Tablet is an anticancer medication. It works by preventing androgen (male hormone) production in man. This is done by inhibiting an enzyme (CYP17) that is responsible for the production of androgen. This is how it slows down the growth of prostate cancer.
Treats prostate cancer that has spread to other parts of the body. Usually taken with another medicine called prednisolone to reduce unwanted side effects. Must be taken on an empty stomach. Always use effective birth control measures to prevent pregnancy while taking this medicine. Your doctor may regularly monitor your liver function, blood pressure, and the level of potassium in your blood while you are having treatment with this medicine.
Zelgor 250mg Tablet is a hormonal treatment that helps manage prostate cancer but does not cure it. It aims to slow the growth of cancer and improve the patient's quality of life, decreasing the frequency of fractures and pain.
Zelgor 250mg Tablet is not a chemotherapy drug. It is a hormonal treatment specifically used to manage prostate cancer in adult men whose cancer has spread to other parts of the body.
Your doctor will prescribe prednisolone along with Zelgor 250mg Tablet. This combination helps manage potential side effects like high blood pressure, fluid retention (edema), or reduced potassium levels, which are possible with Zelgor 250mg Tablet.
There is a risk of severe liver problems associated with Zelgor 250mg Tablet. It can potentially cause acute liver failure (liver dysfunction) in rare cases, even leading to death. Contact your doctor immediately if you experience yellowing of the skin or eyes, darkening of urine, or severe nausea and vomiting. These could be signs of potential liver problems.
Prior to starting treatment, measure liver enzymes before treatment begins. Monitor liver function every two weeks during the first three months and then monthly thereafter. If you develop any symptoms such as jaundice (yellowing of skin or eyes), dark urine, or severe nausea or vomiting, these could be signs of liver problems and should be reported immediately. If liver enzyme levels increase beyond certain limits, your doctor may temporarily stop Zelgor 250mg Tablet.
Take Zelgor 250mg Tablet on an empty stomach with water, at least one hour before eating or at least two hours after eating. Taking it with food might lead to increased and variable blood levels of the medication which can be harmful.
