Amoxycillin (200mg) + Clavulanic Acid (28.5mg)

Key Information

Short Description

Xpand-W Dry Syrup is an antibiotic medicine that helps treat bacterial infections of the ear, nose, throat, chest, lungs, teeth, skin, and urinary tract.

Dosage Form

Powder for Oral Suspension

Introduction

Xpand-W Dry Syrup is an antibiotic medicine that helps treat bacterial infections of the ear, nose, throat, chest, lungs, teeth, skin, and urinary tract. It is capable of killing bacteria that have become resistant to other therapies and thus also helps treat tuberculosis that is resistant to other treatments.

Directions for Use

Your child must complete the entire course of antibiotics. Stopping too soon may cause the bacteria to multiply again or cause another infection.

Safety Information

Side Effects

Bitter taste in the mouth after intake Diarrhea Itchy rash, facial swelling, or breathing difficulty (stop use and report to doctor immediately)

How it works

Xpand-W Dry Syrup is an antibiotic. It has two active agents amoxycillin and clavulanic acid. Amoxycillin works by preventing the formation of the bacterial protective covering (cell wall) essential for the survival of the bacteria. Whereas clavulanic acid serves a special purpose of inhibiting an enzyme (beta-lactamase) that is produced by resistant bacteria.

Quick Tips

Complete the entire course of antibiotics Encourage your child to drink plenty of water in case diarrhea develops Never give Xpand-W Dry Syrup until and unless prescribed by the doctor Do not give Xpand-W Dry Syrup to treat common cold and flu-like symptoms caused by viruses Check 'expiry' before giving Xpand-W Dry Syrup to your child

Frequently asked questions

Can other medicines be given at the same time as Xpand-W Dry Syrup?

Giving Xpand-W Dry Syrup with other medications or substances may lead to interactions. Consult your doctor before administering any medicine to your child, including Xpand-W Dry Syrup, in combination with other medications.

Can I get my child vaccinated while on treatment with Xpand-W Dry Syrup?

Antibiotics usually do not interfere with vaccine ingredients or cause adverse reactions in children who have recently received vaccinations. However, delaying vaccination until the child recovers from any illness is advisable. As soon as your child feels better, the vaccine can be administered.

Which lab tests may my child undergo while taking Xpand-W Dry Syrup on a long-term basis?

Periodically monitoring kidney and liver function tests may be recommended during prolonged therapy to assess your child's overall well-being.

Can I give a higher than the recommended dose of Xpand-W Dry Syrup to my child?

No, exceeding the prescribed dosage of this medicine can increase the likelihood of adverse effects. If your child experiences worsening symptoms or discomfort, please seek advice from their doctor for re-evaluation.

Can I stop giving Xpand-W Dry Syrup to my child when the symptoms are relieved?

Do not discontinue Xpand-W Dry Syrup before completing the full course as prescribed. It's crucial to continue taking the medication even if you see improvement in symptoms, as it may still be providing beneficial effects. This helps ensure complete eradication of the infection.

Can the use of Xpand-W Dry Syrup cause diarrhea?

Yes, Xpand-W Dry Syrup can potentially cause diarrhea. It's important to note that this medicine effectively kills harmful bacteria and may also impact the balance of good bacteria in your child’s stomach, leading to diarrhea. Encourage drinking plenty of water or other fluids if your child experiences diarrhea. If the diarrhea persists or you notice signs of dehydration such as decreased urination with dark-colored and foul-smelling urine, consult a doctor before giving any additional medications.

Do all viral common colds result in secondary bacterial infection?

Most viral common colds do not lead to secondary bacterial infections. Antibiotic use is unnecessary for typical viral infections. It's advisable to seek your child's physician’s advice before administering antibiotics.

The mucus coming out of my child’s nose is yellow-green. Is it a sign of a bacterial infection?

Yellow or green nasal discharge does not always indicate a bacterial infection. During a common cold, it's normal for mucus to thicken and change color. Symptoms often resolve within 7-10 days.

Is there any sign which shows that my child needs immediate medical attention?

Seek immediate medical attention if your child experiences severe allergic reactions (difficulty breathing, skin rashes), gastrointestinal issues (diarrhea), or signs of liver damage (weakness, paleness, vomiting). Though uncommon, these side effects require expert medical care.
