How it works
Wissclav Dry Syrup is an antibiotic. It has two active agents amoxycillin and clavulanic acid. Amoxycillin works by preventing the formation of the bacterial protective covering (cell wall) essential for the survival of the bacteria. Whereas clavulanic acid serves a special purpose of inhibiting an enzyme (beta-lactamase) that is produced by resistant bacteria. This makes the combination of amoxycillin and clavulanic acid an effective line of treatment for many types of infections.
Quick Tips
Your child must complete the entire course of antibiotics. Stopping too soon may cause the bacteria to multiply again or cause another infection. Your child may have a bitter taste in the mouth after the intake of Wissclav Dry Syrup. Eating citrus fruit or sipping plenty of water or fruit juice may help. Encourage your child to drink plenty of water in case diarrhea develops as a side effect. Never give Wissclav Dry Syrup until and unless prescribed by the doctor. Do not give Wissclav Dry Syrup to treat common cold and flu-like symptoms caused by viruses. Never save medicine for future illnesses. Check ‘expiry’ before giving Wissclav Dry Syrup to your child. Immediately discard all the expired medicines. Stop Wissclav Dry Syrup immediately if your child develops an itchy rash, facial swelling, or breathing difficulty. Report to the doctor without any delay.

Frequently asked questions
Can other medicines be given at the same time as Wissclav Dry Syrup?
Wissclav Dry Syrup can sometimes interact with other medicines or substances. It's crucial to inform your child's doctor about any other medications they are currently taking before starting Wissclav Dry Syrup. Always consult with your child’s doctor before administering any medication to them.
Can I get my child vaccinated while on treatment with Wissclav Dry Syrup?
Antibiotics usually don't interfere with the ingredients in vaccines, and they generally do not cause a negative reaction in children who have recently been vaccinated. However, it is recommended to wait for your child to fully recover from their illness before administering any vaccine. Once your child feels better, vaccination can be administered.
Which lab tests may my child undergo while taking Wissclav Dry Syrup on a long-term basis?
Periodically, the doctor might monitor kidney and liver function tests if the treatment is prolonged. This is to ensure your child's condition remains stable.
Can I give a higher than the recommended dose of Wissclav Dry Syrup to my child?
Giving a higher dose of Wissclav Dry Syrup than the recommended amount increases risks of side effects. If your child experiences worsening symptoms, consult their doctor for re-evaluation.
Can I stop giving Wissclav Dry Syrup to my child when the symptoms are relieved?
No, do not discontinue this medicine unless the full course of treatment is finished. It's crucial to continue using Wissclav Dry Syrup for its intended duration, as it may still provide beneficial effects even after symptom relief.
Can the use of Wissclav Dry Syrup cause diarrhea?
Yes, Wissclav Dry Syrup can lead to diarrhea. It's an antibiotic that kills harmful bacteria and affects the good bacteria in your child’s stomach, leading to diarrhea. Encourage your child to drink plenty of fluids if they experience diarrhea. If it persists or you observe signs of dehydration (such as decreased urination with dark-colored, strong-smelling urine), consult your doctor before administering any other medication.
Do all viral common colds result in secondary bacterial infection?
Most times, bacterial infections do not follow viral infections. In fact, giving antibiotics during a viral infection can increase the risk of side effects. It's best to use antibiotics only after consulting with your child’s doctor.
The mucus coming out of my child’s nose is yellow-green. Is it a sign of a bacterial infection?
Yellow or green mucus in the nose does not automatically mean antibiotic treatment is needed. During a common cold, it's normal for mucus to thicken and change from clear to yellow or green. Symptoms generally last 7 to 10 days.
Is there any sign which shows that my child needs immediate medical attention?
Seek emergency medical attention if your child experiences serious allergic reactions (difficulty breathing, skin rashes), gastrointestinal infections (diarrhea), and liver damage (weakness, paleness, vomiting). Although rare, these side effects are significant and require the expertise of a medical professional.
