Introduction
Vivoflox-MS Oral Suspension is a combination of three active ingredients: ofloxacin, metronidazole, and simethicone. It is used to treat bacterial infections in children, including infections of the teeth, lungs, gastrointestinal tract, urinary tract, and genital tract. This medicine is also given as an empirical antibiotic for infected diarrhea mixed with blood and serious infections like peritonitis.
Directions for Use
Vivoflox-MS Oral Suspension is given to children for the treatment of bacterial infections. It is important to follow the dosage instructions provided by the doctor and to complete the full course of treatment.
How it works
Vivoflox-MS Oral Suspension is a combination of three active ingredients: ofloxacin, metronidazole, and simethicone. The antibiotic ingredients interfere with the genetic material of bacteria by impairing its DNA, killing the infection-causing bacteria and preventing its growth and stopping the infection. Simethicone binds with the gas bubbles produced as a result of the other two ingredients or as a result of some other problem, aiding in the removal of gases and providing relief in stomach pain and bloating.
Quick Tips
Diarrhea is a common side effect of this medicine. If it occurs, make sure your child drinks plenty of water. Your child may have an altered taste or furry tongue (coating of Vivoflox-MS Oral Suspension on tongue) after taking Vivoflox-MS Oral Suspension. Eating citrus fruit or sipping plenty of water or fruit juice may help. Do not give any calcium, magnesium, iron, vitamin, or antacid within 2 hours of taking Vivoflox-MS Oral Suspension as these can affect the absorption of the medicine. Never use this medicine for the common cold and flu as they are caused by viruses and Vivoflox-MS Oral Suspension treats only bacterial infections. Discontinue Vivoflox-MS Oral Suspension and inform the doctor immediately if your child develops a rash, itchy skin, swelling of face and mouth, or has difficulty in breathing.

Frequently asked questions
What important health information should I share with my child's doctor before giving Vivoflox-MS Oral Suspension?
Please inform your child's doctor if they have any pre-existing medical conditions, such as heart disease, seizures, psychiatric disorders, diabetes, photodermatoses (sensitivity to sunlight), neuromuscular disorders, rheumatoid arthritis, or genetic disorders affecting blood vessels. This is because Vivoflox-MS Oral Suspension may exacerbate these conditions and lead to complications.
Can I give Vivoflox-MS Oral Suspension with other medications, like cough syrups?
No, do not administer Vivoflox-MS Oral Suspension with alcohol-containing medications like cough syrups. This is because one of the ingredients in Vivoflox-MS Oral Suspension can interact with these substances and cause a disulfiram reaction, resulting in symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, flushing, dizziness, etc.
What should I do if my child accidentally takes an overdose of Vivoflox-MS Oral Suspension?
While an accidental extra dose is unlikely to cause harm, please consult your child's doctor immediately. An overdose may lead to unwanted side effects such as seizures, tremors, severe headache, sudden weakness, blood cell abnormalities, and rapid and irregular heartbeat. If you notice any of these symptoms, seek medical attention promptly.
Why might my child not show improvement after taking Vivoflox-MS Oral Suspension for the prescribed duration?
It could be that Vivoflox-MS Oral Suspension is ineffective against the infection-causing bacteria. In such cases, consult your child's doctor, who may prescribe a different antibiotic with higher efficacy against the disease-causing bacteria. Sometimes, these alternative antibiotics may need to be administered via IV (intravenous injection) in a hospital setting.
Can other medications be given at the same time as Vivoflox-MS Oral Suspension?
Vivoflox-MS Oral Suspension can sometimes interact with other medications or substances. Please inform your child's doctor about any other medications your child is taking before starting Vivoflox-MS Oral Suspension. Additionally, consult their doctor before administering any new medicines to your child.
How should I store Vivoflox-MS Oral Suspension?
Store Vivoflox-MS Oral Suspension at room temperature in a dry place, away from direct heat and light. Make sure to keep all medications out of reach and sight of children who may accidentally consume them.
Can my child get vaccinated while on treatment with Vivoflox-MS Oral Suspension?
Antibiotics generally do not interfere with vaccine ingredients or cause adverse reactions in children who have just been vaccinated. However, it is recommended that children taking antibiotics wait until they recover from their illness before getting vaccinated.
Why has my child started passing red-brown urine since starting Vivoflox-MS Oral Suspension?
The active ingredient metronidazole in Vivoflox-MS Oral Suspension can cause red-brown urine, which is a temporary side effect that resolves once the treatment is completed.
