It is also useful in helping patients manage pain.

Apply the sternal support in a standing or sitting position. Unfasten the closures and place the support around the rib cage area. Place the splinting pad at the sternum, pull the sides with the hook and loop fastener until the support holds the rib cage snugly, and fasten the closure on the support base or use as directed on the manual.
