Frequently asked questions
What should I know before taking Vidom 20mg Capsule?
Before taking Vidom 20mg Capsule, inform your doctor about any liver problems, persistent diarrhea or vomiting, black stools (blood-stained stools), unusual weight loss, trouble swallowing, stomach pain or indigestion. Also, let them know if you're taking a medicine containing atazanavir and nelfinavir for HIV infection. Inform your doctor about all other medicines you're taking, as they may interact with Vidom 20mg Capsule. It's also essential to tell your doctor if you have or had an allergic skin reaction with this medicine. Children under 1 year old or those weighing less than 10 kgs should not take this medicine. Pregnant and breastfeeding mothers should consult their doctor before taking Vidom 20mg Capsule.
Can I take Vidom 20mg Capsule with domperidone?
Vidom 20mg Capsule can be safely taken with domperidone, as no harmful effects have been reported clinically. Domperidone increases gut motility, while Vidom 20mg Capsule decreases acid production in the stomach, making this combination effective for treating reflux esophagitis associated with acidity, heartburn, intestinal and stomach ulcers.
Can Vidom 20mg Capsule cause diarrhea?
Yes, Vidom 20mg Capsule may cause diarrhea as a side effect in some people. If you experience persistent watery stools that don't go away, along with stomach cramps and fever, seek medical help immediately.
For how long can Vidom 20mg Capsule be taken?
Take Vidom 20mg Capsule for as long as advised by your doctor. The duration may vary depending on your condition. Do not stop taking this medicine without talking to your doctor.
Can Vidom 20mg Capsule cause calcium deficiency and osteoporosis?
Yes, Vidom 20mg Capsule can cause osteoporosis (thinning of bones) due to decreased calcium absorption leading to calcium deficiency. This increases the risk of bone fractures on long-term use, such as hip, wrist, or spine fractures. Inform your doctor if you have osteoporosis or are taking corticosteroids before starting therapy. Your doctor may advise you to take calcium or vitamin D supplements to reduce the risk.
What are the long term side effects of Vidom 20mg Capsule?
If used for more than 3 months, certain long-term side effects may be seen. Low magnesium levels in your blood can cause tiredness, confusion, dizziness, shakiness, or irregular heartbeat. Prolonged use beyond a year increases the risk of bone fractures (due to decreased calcium levels), stomach infections, and vitamin B12 deficiency. Vitamin B12 deficiency can lead to anemia, causing fatigue, weakness, or pallor. Additionally, you may experience palpitations, shortness of breath, lightheadedness, indigestion, loss of appetite, flatulence (gas), or nerve problems such as numbness, tingling, and difficulty walking.
Does Vidom 20mg Capsule cause vitamin deficiencies?
Yes, Vidom 20mg Capsule may cause vitamin B12 and vitamin C deficiency. Vitamin B12 requires an acidic environment for absorption from the stomach, which is decreased by this medicine. You may need to take vitamin B12 supplements along with it. The clinical significance of the decrease in vitamin C levels is not known, so vitamin C supplementation is not recommended.
Can Vidom 20mg Capsule be used in cardiac patients?
Vidom 20mg Capsule can be taken by patients with cardiac disease as prescribed by the doctor. However, it may interact with certain drugs (e.g., clopidogrel, digoxin) used for cardiac conditions. Patients taking these medicines together need to be monitored closely by a doctor.
