Valcidox Drops is an antibiotic. It works by preventing the formation of the bacterial protective covering (cell wall) which is essential for the survival of the bacteria. By doing so, this medicine stops the infection-causing bacteria from growing further and prevents the infection from spreading without making the bacteria resistant to further treatment.
Your child must complete the entire course of antibiotics. Stopping too soon may cause the bacteria to multiply again or become resistant or cause another infection. Give this medicine with food to avoid an upset stomach. Encourage your child to drink plenty of water in case diarrhea develops as a side effect. Conditions like common cold and flu are caused by viruses. Never use this medicine for such conditions. Only give Valcidox Drops to your child for their current infection. Never save medicine for future illnesses. Stop this medicine and immediately report to your child’s doctor in case your child develops an itchy rash, facial swelling, or breathing difficulties while taking this medicine.
If you think you have given too much of Valcidox Drops to your child, immediately consult with a doctor. Overdose may cause unwanted side effects and potentially worsen your child's condition.
Some serious side effects of this medicine include persistent vomiting, kidney damage, allergy, diarrhea, and severe gastrointestinal infections. Always consult your child's doctor for guidance in such situations.
Avoid giving Valcidox Drops along with medicines like Aminoglycosides (amikacin, gentamicin, streptomycin), anticoagulants (warfarin), PPIs (Pentaprozole), and H2 blockers (Famotidine). Inform your child's doctor if your child is taking any of these medications before starting Valcidox Drops.
Inform your child's doctor if your child is taking Valcidox Drops at the time of vaccinations like BCG, cholera, and typhoid, as Valcidox Drops can neutralize the effect of these vaccines.
The doctor may prescribe periodic kidney function tests and liver function tests to monitor your child's condition.

Children often have a sensitive stomach and may develop stomach upset while taking antibiotics. Valcidox Drops may kill off good bacteria in the gastrointestinal tract, increasing the risk of developing other infections. If your child experiences diarrhea while on Valcidox Drops, do not stop the medicine course. Instead, consult your child's doctor for guidance.
Yes, irregular treatment, repeated use, and misuse of Valcidox Drops can lead to resistance. Resistant bacteria are no longer killed by the antibiotics and may lead to reinfection.
