Ursolix 150mg Tablet is a hepatoprotective medication. It works by reducing the amount of cholesterol in the blood and helps dissolve gallbladder stones composed mainly of cholesterol. It also improves liver enzymes, protects liver cells from injury caused by toxic bile acids, and enhances liver function.
Ursolix 150mg Tablet should be taken after a meal with a glass of milk or water. Eat a healthy diet, exercise regularly, and avoid alcohol intake. Diarrhea may occur as a side effect. Drink plenty of fluids and inform your doctor if diarrhea persists or if you find blood in your stools. Your doctor may monitor your liver function and bilirubin levels every month for the next 3 months after the start of therapy and every 6 months thereafter. Do not stop taking the medication without talking to your doctor.
The timing for taking this medicine may vary based on your individual condition. Your doctor may advise you to take 2-3 doses per day and suggest the last dose at bedtime. Ursolix 150mg Tablet should be taken with water or milk, and can be taken with food or after food if preferred. For patients with gallstones, the recommended dosage is typically once daily in the evening. Ideally, this medication should be taken at intervals of 6 hours, for example at 8 AM, 2 PM, and 8 PM.
Ursolix 150mg Tablet is generally considered a safe and effective medication. However, like all medications, it can cause side effects. Common side effects might include diarrhea. If you experience diarrhea, your doctor may reduce the dosage or discontinue treatment, if necessary. Additionally, long-term use of this medicine may affect liver enzyme levels, so your doctor will regularly monitor these levels to ensure safety. Despite these minor side effects, Ursolix 150mg Tablet can be a good alternative to surgery for some patients with gallstones.
Ursolix 150mg Tablet works by concentrating in the bile secreted from the liver. This then suppresses the synthesis and secretion of cholesterol by the liver, thereby decreasing cholesterol levels in bile. The medication also stops the intestines from absorbing bile salts and cholesterol, resulting in a gradual reduction of cholesterol saturation in the bile. As a result, it helps dissolve gallstones, leading to their decrease in size and eventual dissolution. It also reduces elevated liver enzyme levels by increasing bile flow through the liver, thus protecting liver cells.
There is a possibility of weight gain while taking Ursolix 150mg Tablet. However, this is not common. Weight gain can occur in patients with liver disease due to a condition called chronic stasis of bile in the small bile ducts of the liver. In this case, bile cannot flow from the liver to the intestines. The chance of weight gain varies from person to person depending on their specific condition. Consult your doctor if you experience any unusual changes in weight.
While taking Ursolix 150mg Tablet, avoid taking an antacid preparation without consulting your doctor. Antacids may decrease the effectiveness of Ursolix 150mg Tablet. Also, you should not take medications such as cholestyramine or colestipol, as they can affect the effectiveness of this medication. Consult your doctor to determine the appropriate time intervals between these medications and Ursolix 150mg Tablet. Additionally, avoid taking oral contraceptives, estrogenic hormones, and blood cholesterol-lowering agents like clofibrate. These substances may increase the risk of developing gallstones and have opposing effects on Ursolix 150mg Tablet.
