Ursoliv 300mg Tablet acts on the liver and concentrates in the bile produced from the liver. This concentration inhibits the production and secretion of cholesterol by the liver, thereby reducing cholesterol levels in the bile. The medication also prevents the intestines from absorbing bile salts and cholesterol. Consequently, decreased cholesterol saturation in the bile promotes the gradual breakdown of cholesterol in gallstones, leading to their size reduction and eventual dissolution. Additionally, the medicine increases bile flow through the liver, which protects liver cells by reducing elevated enzyme levels.
There's a possibility of weight gain while taking Ursoliv 300mg Tablet, but it's not frequent. Weight gain can occur in patients with liver disease due to the build-up of bile in the small ducts of the liver (chronic stasis). The bile cannot flow from the liver to the small intestine. Notably, this chance of weight gain varies from individual to individual and depends on the specific condition. It's advisable to consult your doctor if you experience unexplained weight changes.
When taking Ursoliv 300mg Tablet, avoid combining it with antacids without consulting your doctor, as they can reduce the medication's effectiveness. Avoid using medicines like cholestyramine or colestipol, as these drugs can negatively affect the effectiveness of Ursoliv 300mg Tablet. It's essential to consult your doctor for an appropriate time gap between taking these medications. Additionally, refrain from taking oral contraceptives, estrogenic hormones, and blood cholesterol-lowering agents such as clofibrate, as these could potentially increase the risk of gallstones and counteract the medication's effect.
