Frequently asked questions
When should I take Ursoft Tablet?
The timing of taking this medicine can be tailored based on your condition. Your doctor may advise you to take 2 to 3 doses daily, and recommend the last dose at bedtime. Ursoft Tablet can be taken with water or milk, either before or after meals. When prescribed for dissolving gallstones, it is usually taken once daily at night, and ideally should be taken every 6 hours (e.g., at 8 am, 2 pm, and 8 pm).
Is Ursoft Tablet safe?
Ursoft Tablet is generally considered a safe and effective medication. However, some common side effects may occur such as diarrhea. If you experience diarrhea, your doctor may adjust the dosage or discontinue treatment if necessary. Additionally, long-term use of this medicine could potentially affect liver enzyme levels, which should be monitored regularly by your doctor.
How does Ursoft Tablet help the liver?
Ursoft Tablet acts on the liver by concentrating in bile secreted from the liver. This action suppresses the synthesis and secretion of cholesterol by the liver, leading to reduced cholesterol levels in bile. Additionally, Ursoft Tablet stops the intestines from absorbing bile salts and cholesterol. The decreased cholesterol saturation in the bile then facilitates the gradual dissolving of cholesterol from gallstones, decreasing their size until complete dissolution. This also reduces elevated liver enzyme levels by increasing bile flow through the liver, thereby protecting liver cells.
Does Ursoft Tablet cause weight gain?
Weight gain is a possibility with Ursoft Tablet use, but it's not common. However, this medicine may potentially contribute to weight gain when prescribed in patients with liver disease accompanied by chronic bile stasis within the liver's small bile ducts. In such cases, bile cannot flow from the liver to the small intestine. Weight gain is also dependent on individual disease state, so consult your doctor if you experience noticeable weight changes.
What should I avoid while taking Ursoft Tablet?
While taking Ursoft Tablet, it's advisable to avoid combining it with antacid medications without consulting your doctor. This can decrease the effectiveness of Ursoft Tablet. Additionally, you should avoid co-administration of cholestyramine or colestipol as they might negatively impact Ursoft Tablet efficacy. For optimal timing, consult your doctor regarding a safe gap between Ursoft Tablet and these medications. It's also advised to avoid taking oral contraceptives, estrogenic hormones, and blood cholesterol-lowering agents like clofibrate, which may increase the risk of gallstone formation and counteract Ursoft Tablet's effects.
