Urmocol SR 600 Tablet works by concentrating in the bile secreted from the liver, suppressing the synthesis and secretion of cholesterol by the liver, and reducing cholesterol levels in bile. It also prevents the intestines from absorbing bile salts and cholesterol, leading to reduced cholesterol saturation in bile and the gradual dissolution of cholesterol from gallstones. Furthermore, it reduces elevated liver enzyme levels by increasing bile flow through the liver, protecting liver cells.
Yes, weight gain is a possible side effect of Urmocol SR 600 Tablet, although it is not common. This medication can cause weight gain in patients with liver disease associated with chronic bile stasis in small bile ducts, where bile cannot flow from the liver to the small intestine. The likelihood of weight gain varies from person to person and depends on the underlying disease. Consult your doctor if you experience weight gain while taking this medication.

Also, avoid taking cholestyramine or colestipol, as they can affect the medication's effectiveness. Ask your doctor about the recommended time gap between taking Urmocol SR 600 Tablet and these medications. Additionally, avoid taking oral contraceptives, estrogenic hormones, and blood cholesterol-lowering agents like clofibrate, as they may increase the risk of developing gallstones and counteract the effects of Urmocol SR 600 Tablet.
