Frequently asked questions
What is Unimin 2500 Injection?
Unimin 2500 Injection contains vitamin B12. Vitamin B12 is an essential nutrient that the body requires for creating red blood cells and maintaining a healthy nervous system. It is also necessary for energy release from food and using vitamin B11 (folic acid). Vitamin B12 deficiency may lead to various health problems.
Why can’t I get sufficient vitamin B12 in my diet?
You can obtain vitamin B12 from food sources like meat, fish, eggs and dairy products. However, individuals who follow a vegetarian or vegan diet may not have adequate B12 intake as it is not naturally present in fruits, vegetables, and grains. Therefore, vitamin B12 deficiency is commonly observed in vegetarians or vegans.
What happens if I have vitamin B12 deficiency?
Deficiency of vitamin B12 can cause fatigue, weakness, constipation, loss of appetite, weight loss, and megaloblastic anemia (a condition where red blood cells become larger than normal). It may also lead to nerve problems such as numbness or tingling in the hands and feet. Other symptoms include balance issues, depression, confusion, dementia, poor memory, and soreness in the mouth or tongue.
Is Unimin 2500 Injection safe?
Unimin 2500 Injection is generally well tolerated and considered safe. In rare cases, side effects may occur such as nausea, diarrhea, anorexia, and rash. Stop taking the medicine immediately if a rash develops.
How should Unimin 2500 Injection be given?
Unimin 2500 Injection can be administered intravenously (directly into a vein) or intramuscularly (into a muscle). The usual dose is 1 ampoule (0.5 mg of Unimin 2500 Injection), and it's typically given three times per week. After two months, administer 1 ampoule (0.5 mg of Unimin 2500 Injection) once every one to three months as part of maintenance therapy.
What precautions need to be taken while administering Unimin 2500 Injection?
Avoid injecting at the same site repeatedly. If there's severe pain during injection or if blood flows back into the syringe, remove the needle and re-insert at a different location.
