Introduction
Ulticlav DS Syrup is an antibiotic medicine that helps treat bacterial infections of the ear, nose, throat, chest, lungs, teeth, skin, and urinary tract. It is capable of killing bacteria that have become resistant to other therapies and thus also helps treat tuberculosis that is resistant to other treatments.
Directions for Use
Your child must complete the entire course of antibiotics. Stopping too soon may cause the bacteria to multiply again or cause another infection.
How it works
Ulticlav DS Syrup is an antibiotic. It has two active agents amoxycillin and clavulanic acid. Amoxycillin works by preventing the formation of the bacterial protective covering (cell wall) essential for the survival of the bacteria. Whereas clavulanic acid serves a special purpose of inhibiting an enzyme (beta-lactamase) that is produced by resistant bacteria. This makes the combination of amoxycillin and clavulanic acid an effective line of treatment for many types of infections.

Frequently asked questions
Can other medicines be given at the same time as Ulticlav DS Syrup?
Ulticlav DS Syrup can sometimes interact with other medications or substances. Always inform your child's doctor about all other medications they are taking before starting Ulticlav DS Syrup. It is also important to consult with your child's doctor before giving any medicine to your child.
Can I get my child vaccinated while on treatment with Ulticlav DS Syrup?
Antibiotics generally do not interfere with the ingredients in vaccines or cause a negative reaction in children who have recently received a vaccination. However, it's crucial for children taking antibiotics to delay receiving vaccinations until their illness is fully resolved. Once your child recovers from the illness, the vaccine can be administered.
Which lab tests may my child undergo while taking Ulticlav DS Syrup on a long-term basis?
Under prolonged therapy, doctors may periodically monitor kidney and liver function tests to assess your child's overall condition.
Can I give a higher than the recommended dose of Ulticlav DS Syrup to my child?
No, administering a dosage above the recommended levels of this medication can increase the likelihood of experiencing side effects. If your child experiences an increase in symptom severity, please consult with their doctor for re-evaluation.
Can I stop giving Ulticlav DS Syrup to my child when the symptoms are relieved?
No, do not discontinue this medicine unless you have completed the full course of treatment. Symptoms may improve before the infection is completely eradicated. Therefore, continue giving the medication as instructed for the entire duration to ensure the medicine continues to provide benefits.
Can the use of Ulticlav DS Syrup cause diarrhea?
Yes, Ulticlav DS Syrup can sometimes cause diarrhea. This is because it is an antibiotic that kills harmful bacteria. Additionally, the medication may affect the beneficial bacteria in your child's stomach and induce diarrhea. To manage this, encourage your child to drink ample fluids and if diarrhea persists or shows signs of dehydration (reduced urination with dark-colored and strong-smelling urine), consult a doctor before giving any additional medications.
Do all viral common colds result in secondary bacterial infection?
While most of the time, bacterial infections do not follow viral infections, it's crucial to remember that antibiotics are only prescribed if there is a bacterial infection confirmed by a doctor. Therefore, using antibiotics for a common cold is unnecessary and can lead to harmful side effects.
The mucus coming out of my child’s nose is yellow-green. Is it a sign of a bacterial infection?
Yellow or green discharge from the nose does not necessarily indicate a bacterial infection. During a common cold, mucus may thicken and change color to yellow or green. It's important to note that symptoms often last for 7-10 days. If you are concerned, it is advisable to seek further medical advice.
Is there any sign which shows that my child needs immediate medical attention?
You must immediately contact your child's doctor if they experience severe allergic reactions (breathing problems, skin rashes), gastrointestinal infections (diarrhea), or liver damage symptoms such as weakness and paleness, along with vomiting. These side effects are rare but serious and require expert medical attention.
