Ciclosporin
UD Col 150mg Tablet is a hepatoprotective medication that reduces cholesterol in the blood and helps dissolve gallbladder stones composed mainly of cholesterol. It also improves liver enzymes, protects liver cells from injury due to toxic bile acids, and enhances liver function.
UD Col 150mg Tablet should be taken after a meal with a glass of milk or water. Eat a healthy diet, exercise regularly, and avoid alcohol intake. Diarrhea may occur as a side effect. Drink plenty of fluids and inform your doctor if diarrhea persists or if you find blood in your stools. Your doctor may monitor your liver function and bilirubin levels every month for the next 3 months after the start of therapy and every 6 months thereafter. Do not stop taking the medication without talking to your doctor.
The appropriate timing for taking this medicine might vary depending on your individual condition. Your doctor may prescribe a dosage of 2 to 3 doses per day and suggest taking the last dose in the evening. UD Col 150mg Tablet can be taken with water, milk, or after meals. For patients prescribed for gallstones, it is usually taken once daily in the evening. Ideally, it should be taken at a 6-hour interval, such as at 8 AM, 2 PM, and 8 PM.
UD Col 150mg Tablet is generally considered to be a safe and effective medication. However, it may cause some common side effects like diarrhea. If you experience diarrhea, your doctor might adjust the dosage or discontinue treatment in severe cases. Additionally, long-term use of this medication can potentially influence liver enzyme levels. Your doctor will regularly monitor these levels to ensure their stability.
UD Col 150mg Tablet acts on the liver by accumulating in bile secreted from the liver. This leads to a suppression of cholesterol production and secretion by the liver, resulting in reduced cholesterol levels in bile. The medication also inhibits intestinal absorption of bile salts and cholesterol. Consequently, lowered cholesterol saturation in the bile contributes to the gradual dissolution of gallstones, ultimately decreasing their size and leading to eventual dissolution. Additionally, it decreases elevated liver enzyme levels by increasing bile flow through the liver, thereby protecting liver cells.
While some individuals may experience a change in body weight while taking UD Col 150mg Tablet, this is not common. In patients with liver disease associated with chronic bile stasis in the small bile ducts of the liver, it may lead to weight gain. This condition results in an obstruction to bile flow from the liver to the small intestine. Weight gain likelihood varies depending on individual cases and medical conditions, so consult your doctor if you observe any unusual weight changes.
Avoid combining UD Col 150mg Tablet with antacid preparations without consulting your doctor, as this can decrease its effectiveness. In addition, it's important to avoid medications like cholestyramine or colestipol. These can negatively impact the effectiveness of UD Col 150mg Tablet. Seek guidance from your doctor regarding appropriate timing between these medications and UD Col 150mg Tablet. Additionally, avoid taking oral contraceptives, estrogenic hormones, and blood cholesterol-lowering agents such as clofibrate, as these could increase the likelihood of gallstone formation and work against UD Col 150mg Tablet's effect.
