How it works
Theomox Clav DS Dry Syrup is an antibiotic. It has two active agents amoxycillin and clavulanic acid. Amoxycillin works by preventing the formation of the bacterial protective covering (cell wall) essential for the survival of the bacteria. Whereas clavulanic acid serves a special purpose of inhibiting an enzyme (beta-lactamase) that is produced by resistant bacteria. This makes the combination of amoxycillin and clavulanic acid an effective line of treatment for many types of infections.

Frequently asked questions
Can other medicines be given at the same time as Theomox Clav DS Dry Syrup?
Theomox Clav DS Dry Syrup may interact with other medications or substances. It is crucial to inform your child's doctor about all medications they are taking before starting Theomox Clav DS Dry Syrup. Consulting a healthcare professional is essential for safe medication administration.
Can I get my child vaccinated while on treatment with Theomox Clav DS Dry Syrup?
Antibiotics typically do not interfere with vaccines or cause adverse reactions in children who have recently received a vaccination. However, it is advisable to wait for the illness to resolve before administering vaccines. Once your child feels better, their doctor can determine if a vaccination is appropriate.
Which lab tests may my child undergo while taking Theomox Clav DS Dry Syrup on a long-term basis?
If the treatment is extended, regular blood tests to monitor kidney and liver function can be ordered. This helps ensure your child's overall health during prolonged therapy.
Can I give a higher than the recommended dose of Theomox Clav DS Dry Syrup to my child?
It is not advisable to exceed the recommended dosage of this medication. Giving a higher dose can increase potential side effects. If your child experiences worsened symptoms, consulting their doctor for re-evaluation is crucial.
Can I stop giving Theomox Clav DS Dry Syrup to my child when the symptoms are relieved?
No, do not discontinue Theomox Clav DS Dry Syrup without your doctor's guidance. It is essential to complete the prescribed course of treatment, even if you observe improvement in symptoms. This ensures the medication achieves its intended effect and potentially prevents complications.
Can Theomox Clav DS Dry Syrup cause diarrhea?
Yes, Theomox Clav DS Dry Syrup may induce diarrhea as it is an antibiotic that targets harmful bacteria. Additionally, this medication can disrupt the balance of helpful bacteria in the child's gut, leading to diarrhea. Encourage your child to consume plenty of fluids and consult a healthcare professional if diarrhea persists and signs of dehydration (e.g., reduced urination, dark-colored and strong-smelling urine) occur.
Do all viral common colds result in secondary bacterial infection?
Most cases do not. While antibiotics are unnecessary for viral infections like the common cold, they can exacerbate complications and lead to side effects if taken inappropriately.
The mucus coming out of my child’s nose is yellow-green. Is it a sign of a bacterial infection?
Yellow or green mucus in the nose is not always an indication of a bacterial infection. During a common cold, mucus often thickens and changes from clear to yellow or green. These symptoms typically resolve within 7-10 days.
Is there any sign which shows that my child needs immediate medical attention?
Seek immediate medical help if your child experiences severe allergic reactions (e.g., difficulty breathing, skin rash), gastrointestinal distress (diarrhea, vomiting), or liver damage (lethargy, pale complexion, jaundice). These are serious side effects and require prompt medical attention.
