Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Terefin 250mg Tablet may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time. Avoid Terefin 250mg Tablet with caffeine and chocolate as well as food containing caffeine and chocolate such as tea leaves, cocoa beans.
Terefin 250mg Tablet is an antifungal medication. It kills and stops the growth of the fungi by destroying its cell membrane, thereby treating your skin infection.
Do not skip any doses and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better. Treatment may be needed for 2 to 6 weeks for skin infections and 6 weeks to 6 months for nail infections. Your doctor may monitor your liver function regularly during treatment. Inform your doctor if you notice yellowing of eyes or skin, dark urine, or stomach pain. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to conceive or breastfeeding.
Oral intake of Terefin 250mg Tablet is not recommended in patients with chronic or active liver disease. A liver function test may be ordered to evaluate the effectiveness of liver function. This is because Terefin 250mg Tablet undergoes metabolism by liver enzymes, and impaired liver function can lead to elevated drug levels in blood, potentially increasing side effects and toxicity. Therefore, it's crucial for patients with liver cirrhosis to inform their physician about their condition and any other medications they are taking. Regular monitoring (every 4-6 weeks) of liver function is recommended, and the medication dosage may need to be adjusted accordingly based on these results.
Some individuals may experience skin reactions while using Terefin 250mg Tablet. Reports indicate that some people develop serious skin/hypersensitivity reactions, such as Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, and other severe reactions with Terefin 250mg Tablet. It is crucial to consult a physician before starting this medication. In case you experience any type of skin reaction or rash, discontinue the medication immediately and inform your doctor.
Terefin 250mg Tablet exhibits effectiveness as an anti-fungal agent when used according to the physician's prescribed dosage and duration. Do not discontinue use, even if improvement in condition is observed. Abruptly stopping treatment may allow the fungus to continue growing, leading to potential infection resurgence or worsening of existing symptoms.
The typical treatment duration for various fungal infections, such as Tinea pedis (foot fungus), Tinea corporis (ringworm), and Tinea cruris (groin fungus) is approximately 2 to 4 weeks. However, this duration may extend up to 6 weeks in some cases. For nail fungal infections, treatment usually spans from 6 to 12 weeks. Fingernail fungal infections might require 6 weeks of treatment, while toenail fungal infections could take up to 12 weeks.
It's recommended to consume beverages like tea and coffee with caution while on Terefin 250mg Tablet. This medication reduces caffeine metabolism rate by 19%, potentially increasing blood levels of caffeine. These increased caffeine levels may lead to side effects such as jitteriness, headaches, increased heartbeat, and restlessness.
