It is also used to treat chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. This medicine prevents the multiplication of viruses in human cells, stopping the virus from producing new viruses and clearing up your infection. Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, flatulence, trouble sleeping, headache, and rash. It can also increase the risk of bone loss (osteoporosis) if taken for a long time. Regular exercise and calcium and vitamin D supplements may be recommended. Consult your doctor if you have liver or kidney disease or bone problems. Pregnant or breastfeeding mothers should consult their doctor before using this medicine.
