Frequently asked questions
What is Tacroz Ointment used for?
Tacroz Ointment is a medicine designed to modulate the immune system. It works by altering the activity of the immune system, primarily decreasing its response. It is used to treat moderate to severe eczema (atopic dermatitis) in adults who do not respond to steroids or experience side effects from using them. In atopic dermatitis, the skin's immune system overreacts, causing skin inflammation that results in itching, redness, and dryness. Tacroz Ointment addresses this abnormal immune response by altering it, leading to reduced skin inflammation and itchiness.
What are the side effects of Tacroz Ointment?
When applied to the skin, Tacroz Ointment can cause skin irritation, burning sensation, and itching at the application site. These symptoms typically range in severity from mild to moderate and usually resolve within one week after treatment starts. Other common manifestations include redness along with sensations of warmth, pain, altered sensation, and rash at the application site. Tacroz Ointment increases the risk of inflamed or infected hair follicles, cold sores, acne, and generalized herpes simplex infections.
Is Tacroz Ointment ointment safe?
Compared to other immune-suppressing medications, Tacroz Ointment has been shown to be a safe and effective short-term treatment for atopic dermatitis. Its absorption into the bloodstream and body is minimal when applied directly to the skin, resulting in fewer side effects than when taken orally.
Does Tacroz Ointment have abuse potential?
No, Tacroz Ointment does not have an abuse potential. It is not a controlled substance and therefore does not require permission from authorities or a doctor for use.
Does Tacroz Ointment cause cancer?
Long-term use of Tacroz Ointment has been linked to an increased risk of lymph node tumors called lymphoma. Some studies have shown that people who used Tacroz Ointment ointment or a similar medication developed skin cancer or lymphoma. It's essential to consult your doctor if you must use Tacroz Ointment for more than six weeks or if your eczema symptoms haven’t improved or are worsening during treatment.
Is Tacroz Ointment a steroid?
No, Tacroz Ointment is not a steroid. It is a medicine designed to modulate the immune system. It is used in the treatment of eczema, most commonly in atopic dermatitis. One advantage of Tacroz Ointment is that it does not cause skin thinning (atrophy) or other steroid-related side effects.
