Frequently asked questions
What is Tacrovin Forte Ointment used for?
Tacrovin Forte Ointment is a medication that modifies the immune system. It works by decreasing its activity and is used to treat moderate to severe eczema (atopic dermatitis) in adults who do not respond to or experience side effects from topical corticosteroids. Atopic dermatitis involves an overactive immune response in the skin, leading to inflammation, itching, redness, and dryness. Tacrovin Forte Ointment targets the abnormal immune response, reducing skin inflammation and itchiness.
What are the side effects of Tacrovin Forte Ointment?
Tacrovin Forte Ointment may cause skin irritation, burning sensations, or itching at the site of application. These are usually mild to moderate and typically subside within a week after starting treatment. Common accompanying symptoms include redness, warmth, pain, altered sensation, and rash at the application site. Using Tacrovin Forte Ointment increases the patient's risk of developing inflamed hair follicles, cold sores, acne, and generalized herpes simplex infections.
Is Tacrovin Forte Ointment safe?
Tacrovin Forte Ointment has been shown to be a safe and effective short-term treatment for atopic dermatitis compared to other immunosuppressants. It has minimal absorption into the bloodstream or body when applied topically, minimizing side effects as compared to oral use.
Does Tacrovin Forte Ointment have abuse potential?
No, Tacrovin Forte Ointment does not have a high risk of abuse. It is not a controlled substance and therefore requires no special permission for use. Controlled substances often pose risks of misuse due to their potent effects.
Does Tacrovin Forte Ointment cause cancer?
Long-term usage of Tacrovin Forte Ointment has been associated with an increased risk of developing lymph node tumors called lymphoma. Some studies have indicated that individuals using Tacrovin Forte Ointment ointment or similar medications may be at higher risk for developing skin cancers or lymphoma. It's important to consult your doctor if you need treatment for more than six weeks, or if your eczema symptoms worsen despite treatment.
Is Tacrovin Forte Ointment a steroid?
No, Tacrovin Forte Ointment is not a steroid. It works by modulating the immune system to reduce inflammation in eczema rather than using anti-inflammatory drugs like steroids.
