Frequently asked questions
What is Tacrovera Forte Ointment used for?
Tacrovera Forte Ointment is a medication that modifies the immune system. It works by decreasing its activity and is used to treat moderate to severe eczema (atopic dermatitis) in adults who have not responded to steroids or developed side effects from using them. In atopic dermatitis, the skin's immune system undergoes an overreaction, causing skin inflammation which leads to itching, redness, and dryness. Tacrovera Forte Ointment acts on this abnormal immune response by altering it, thus relieving the skin inflammation and itchiness.
What are the side effects of Tacrovera Forte Ointment?
Tacrovera Forte Ointment, when applied topically to the skin, can cause skin irritation, burning sensation, and itching at the site of application. These reactions are usually mild to moderate in severity and typically resolve within one week of starting treatment. Redness is also a common manifestation along with sensations of warmth, pain, altered sensation, and rash at the site of application. Using Tacrovera Forte Ointment increases the patient’s risk of developing inflamed or infected hair follicles, cold sores, acne, and generalized herpes simplex infections.
Is Tacrovera Forte Ointment ointment safe?
Compared to other immune-suppressing medications, Tacrovera Forte Ointment has been found to be a safe and effective short-term treatment for atopic dermatitis. When applied to the affected skin area, its absorption into the bloodstream and body is minimal, resulting in fewer side effects compared to oral administration.
Does Tacrovera Forte Ointment have abuse potential?
No, Tacrovera Forte Ointment does not have an abuse potential and therefore is not a controlled substance. Controlled substances are those that can be abused, and require permission from authorities and a doctor for use.
Does Tacrovera Forte Ointment cause cancer?
Long-term use of Tacrovera Forte Ointment has been associated with an increased risk of lymph node tumors called lymphoma. Some studies have shown that patients who used this medication or similar medications developed skin cancer or lymphoma. Consult your doctor if you must use Tacrovera Forte Ointment ointment for more than six weeks or if your eczema symptoms haven’t improved, and are getting worse during treatment.
Is Tacrovera Forte Ointment a steroid?
No, Tacrovera Forte Ointment is not a steroid. It is a medication that modifies the workings of the immune system and is used in treating eczema, particularly in atopic dermatitis. An advantage of Tacrovera Forte Ointment is its lack of causing skin thinning (atrophy) or other steroid-related side effects.
