Frequently asked questions
What is Tacrokan Forte Lotion used for?
Tacrokan Forte Lotion is a medicine that modifies the immune system. It works by decreasing the activity of the immune system and is primarily used to treat moderate to severe eczema (atopic dermatitis) in adults who do not respond well to steroids or experience side effects from using them. In atopic dermatitis, the skin's immune system undergoes an overreaction, resulting in skin inflammation that causes itching, redness, and dryness. Tacrokan Forte Lotion acts on the abnormal immune response by altering it, thereby relieving the skin inflammation and itchiness.
What are the side effects of Tacrokan Forte Lotion?
Tacrokan Forte Lotion applied to the skin may cause skin irritation, burning sensation, and itching at the application site. These effects are typically mild to moderate in severity and usually resolve within one week of starting treatment. Redness is also commonly observed along with sensations of warmth, pain, altered sensation, and rash at the application site. Using Tacrokan Forte Lotion increases the patient's risk of developing inflamed or infected hair follicles, cold sores, acne, and generalized herpes simplex infections.
Is Tacrokan Forte Lotion safe?
Compared to other immunosuppressants, Tacrokan Forte Lotion has been found to be a safe and effective short-term treatment for atopic dermatitis. When applied to the affected skin area, its absorption into the bloodstream is minimal, leading to fewer side effects compared to oral administration.
Does Tacrokan Forte Lotion have abuse potential?
No, Tacrokan Forte Lotion does not have abuse potential and thus is not a controlled substance. Controlled substances have the potential for abuse and require permission from authorities and a doctor before use.
Does Tacrokan Forte Lotion cause cancer?
Long-term use of Tacrokan Forte Lotion has been associated with an increased risk of lymph node tumors known as lymphoma. Some studies have found that patients who used Tacrokan Forte Lotion or similar medications developed skin cancer or lymphoma. If you need to use Tacrokan Forte Lotion for more than six weeks or if your eczema symptoms are not improving or worsening while on treatment, consult your doctor.
Is Tacrokan Forte Lotion a steroid?
No, Tacrokan Forte Lotion is not a steroid. It is a medicine that modifies the immune system's activity and is used to treat eczema, most commonly in atopic dermatitis. An advantage of Tacrokan Forte Lotion is its lack of skin thinning (atrophy) or other side effects common with steroids.
