Frequently asked questions
Can I take Tacko M 20mg Tablet with domperidone?
This medicine can be safely taken with domperidone, as no adverse effects have been reported clinically. A fixed-dose combination of these two medicines is also available. Domperidone increases gut motility and Tacko M 20mg Tablet decreases stomach acid production. This combination is highly effective in treating reflux esophagitis, heartburn, intestinal and stomach ulcers.
What should I know before taking Tacko M 20mg Tablet?
Do not take it if you are taking a medicine containing atazanavir and nelfinavir (used for HIV infection). Inform your doctor of liver problems, persistent diarrhea or vomiting, black stools (blood-stained stools), unusual weight loss, trouble swallowing, stomach pain, or indigestion. Tell your doctor about all other medications you're taking because they may interact with Tacko M 20mg Tablet or be affected by it. Notify your doctor if you have ever had an allergic skin reaction to this medicine. It should not be given to children under one year of age or those weighing less than 10 kg. Pregnant and breastfeeding mothers should consult their doctor before taking the medicine, as potential harm could occur to the baby.
Can Tacko M 20mg Tablet cause diarrhea?
Yes, it may cause diarrhea as a side effect in some people. This is typically not severe, but if you experience persistent watery stools that do not go away along with stomach cramps and fever, seek immediate medical attention.
For how long can Tacko M 20mg Tablet be taken?
Take it as prescribed by your doctor. The duration may vary based on your condition. Never stop taking the medicine without discussing it with your doctor first.
Can Tacko M 20mg Tablet cause calcium deficiency and osteoporosis?
It can cause osteoporosis (thinning of bones) because it reduces calcium absorption, leading to calcium deficiency. This increases the risk of fractures over time, particularly hip, wrist, or spine fractures. Inform your doctor if you have osteoporosis or are taking corticosteroids, which could increase the risk. Your doctor may suggest calcium or vitamin D supplements to help mitigate this risk. Consult them for advice on how to prevent this.
What are the long term side effects of Tacko M 20mg Tablet?
Long-term use (more than 3 months) may lead to certain adverse effects. These include low magnesium levels in the blood, which can cause feelings of fatigue, confusion, dizziness, shakiness or lightheadedness. You might also experience muscle twitches or irregular heartbeat. Prolonged use for over a year may increase your risk of bone fractures (due to decreased calcium levels in the blood), particularly hip, wrist, or spine, stomach infections, and vitamin B12 deficiency. Vitamin B12 deficiency can lead to anemia, causing tiredness, weakness, or pale skin. Additionally, you might experience palpitations, shortness of breath, lightheadedness, indigestion, loss of appetite, flatulence (gas), or nerve problems like numbness, tingling, and difficulty walking.
Does Tacko M 20mg Tablet cause vitamin deficiencies?
It may lead to vitamin B12 and vitamin C deficiency. When taken orally, Vitamin B12 requires an acidic environment for absorption from the stomach. This medicine decreases gastric acid secretion. You may need to take supplemental B12 along with it. The clinical significance of decreased vitamin C levels is unknown; therefore, supplementation is not recommended.
Can Tacko M 20mg Tablet be used in cardiac patients?
Patients with heart disease can use this medicine as prescribed by their doctor. However, it may interact with certain drugs (e.g., clopidogrel and digoxin) commonly prescribed to cardiac patients. These combinations need close monitoring by a doctor.
