Amoxycillin (200mg) + Clavulanic Acid (28.5mg)

Key Information

Short Description

Surellin-CV Dry Syrup is an antibiotic medicine used to treat various bacterial infections including those of the ear, nose, throat, chest, lungs, teeth, skin, and urinary tract.

Dosage Form

Oral Suspension

Introduction

Surellin-CV Dry Syrup is an antibiotic medicine that helps treat bacterial infections of the ear, nose, throat, chest, lungs, teeth, skin, and urinary tract. It is capable of killing bacteria that have become resistant to other therapies and thus also helps treat tuberculosis that is resistant to other treatments. It contains two active agents, amoxycillin and clavulanic acid. Amoxycillin works by preventing the formation of the bacterial protective covering (cell wall) essential for the survival of the bacteria. Clavulanic acid serves a special purpose of inhibiting an enzyme (beta-lactamase) that is produced by resistant bacteria, making this combination effective for many types of infections.

Directions for Use

Administer Surellin-CV Dry Syrup as prescribed by the doctor. Ensure your child completes the entire course of antibiotics. Do not stop the medication prematurely as it may cause the bacteria to multiply again or become resistant.

How it works

Surellin-CV Dry Syrup contains amoxycillin and clavulanic acid. Amoxycillin prevents the formation of the bacterial cell wall, essential for bacterial survival. Clavulanic acid inhibits beta-lactamase, an enzyme produced by resistant bacteria, making the combination effective against various infections.

Quick Tips

Your child must complete the entire course of antibiotics. Stopping too soon may cause the bacteria to multiply again, become resistant, or cause another infection. Your child may have a bitter taste in the mouth after the intake of Surellin-CV Dry Syrup. Eating citrus fruit or sipping plenty of water or fruit juice may help. Encourage your child to drink plenty of water in case diarrhea develops as a side effect. Never give Surellin-CV Dry Syrup until and unless prescribed by the doctor. You must also never share your child’s medicine with anyone else even if they show similar symptoms. Do not give Surellin-CV Dry Syrup to treat common cold and flu-like symptoms caused by viruses. Never save medicine for future illnesses. It cannot be said whether the same medicine will work on future infections. Check ‘expiry’ before giving Surellin-CV Dry Syrup to your child. Immediately discard all the expired medicines. Stop Surellin-CV Dry Syrup immediately if your child develops an itchy rash, facial swelling, or breathing difficulty. Report to the doctor without any delay.

Frequently asked questions

Can other medicines be given at the same time as Surellin-CV Dry Syrup?

It's essential to inform your doctor about any other medications your child is taking before starting Surellin-CV Dry Syrup, as it may interact with them. Additionally, consult with your child's doctor before administering any new medication.

Can I get my child vaccinated while on treatment with Surellin-CV Dry Syrup?

Antibiotics like Surellin-CV Dry Syrup usually do not interfere with vaccines or cause adverse reactions in children who have recently been vaccinated. However, it's recommended to delay vaccination until your child has recovered from their illness.

Which lab tests may my child undergo while taking Surellin-CV Dry Syrup on a long-term basis?

During prolonged therapy, regular monitoring of kidney and liver function tests is necessary to ensure your child's condition remains stable.

Can I give a higher than the recommended dose of Surellin-CV Dry Syrup to my child?

Giving more medication than prescribed can increase the risk of side effects. If you notice increased severity of symptoms, consult with your doctor for re-evaluation and guidance.

Can I stop giving Surellin-CV Dry Syrup to my child when the symptoms are relieved?

Continue administering the full course of treatment as directed by your doctor, even if symptoms improve before completion. Stopping medication too soon may allow the infection to persist.

Can the use of Surellin-CV Dry Syrup cause diarrhea?

Yes, antibiotics like Surellin-CV Dry Syrup can disrupt helpful bacteria in your child's stomach, leading to diarrhea. Encourage your child to drink plenty of fluids and consult with their doctor if symptoms persist or worsen.

Do all viral common colds result in secondary bacterial infection?

Most viral infections do not lead to subsequent bacterial infections, and using antibiotics unnecessarily can increase the risk of side effects. Consult with your child's doctor before administering antibiotics.

The mucus coming out of my child’s nose is yellow-green. Is it a sign of a bacterial infection?

Yellow or green mucus does not necessarily indicate the need for antibiotics, as it's a common symptom during colds. Symptoms usually resolve within 7-10 days.

Is there any sign which shows that my child needs immediate medical attention?

Seek immediate medical help if your child experiences severe allergic reactions (breathing difficulties, skin rashes), gastrointestinal issues (diarrhea), or liver damage symptoms (weakness, paleness, vomiting). These side effects are rare but serious and require prompt attention.
