Frequently asked questions
What is Subawin Capsule used for?
Subawin Capsule is indicated for the treatment of fungal infections caused by Trichophyton spp., Microsporum spp., and Epidermophyton floccosum. It is effective in treating various conditions, including ringworm infection, foot infections, groin and buttock infections, persistent nail infections (fingernails or toenails), yeast infections of the vagina or mouth/throat in patients with lower disease resistance. Subawin Capsule can also be used in treating cryptococcal infection and other fungal infections caused by Histoplasma, Aspergillus, and Blastomyces.
How long do I need to take Subawin Capsule?
The duration of treatment with Subawin Capsule depends on the specific type and site of infection. It can range from 30 days for athlete's foot, to as short as a single day to three days in case of vaginal candidiasis depending on dosage prescribed by your doctor.
I am taking Subawin Capsule for nail infection but don’t see any improvement. Can I stop taking it?
No, you should not discontinue Subawin Capsule treatment without completing the full course. Stopping prematurely might not fully eradicate the fungal infection. It typically takes 6-9 months to clear nail lesions because after the medicine eliminates the fungus, new nails take time to grow. Do not worry if you do not observe a rapid improvement during the entire treatment.
Why was my doctor asking me for blood tests?
Your doctor is likely monitoring your liver function while taking Subawin Capsule, as this medication can potentially cause serious liver damage. If you experience symptoms such as loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, dark urine, or abdominal pain during treatment, promptly inform your doctor.
Can I take antacid and Subawin Capsule together?
Subawin Capsule can be administered with a sufficient acid in the stomach. Medicines for heartburn, indigestion, or ulcers neutralize the stomach acid produced by the body. Therefore, administer antacids or similar medications two hours after taking Subawin Capsule. If using antacids, take them with cola.
What is drug resistance and can it develop to Subawin Capsule?
Drug resistance occurs when the fungus in your body changes its structure, rendering the medication ineffective. Subawin Capsule has been reported to be less effective against some candida species (krusei, glabrata, and tropicalis). If your fungal infection is caused by these species, Subawin Capsule should not be used, and you must consult a doctor.
Can I take alprazolam and Subawin Capsule together?
Yes, it's usually safe to take both Alprazolam (a benzodiazepine) and Subawin Capsule together. However, monitor for any side effects of Alprazolam such as lightheadedness or drowsiness after taking Subawin Capsule. If you experience unwanted side effects after starting Subawin Capsule, consult your doctor who may adjust the dosage of Alprazolam.
Why was my doctor not prescribing Subawin Capsule to my friend?
Your doctor might have opted against prescribing Subawin Capsule for your friend as it could interfere with dofetilide, a medication she's currently taking. This interference can lead to disturbances in the heart's electrical activity and pose a risk to her health.
