Yes, Sonlac Syrup is a laxative that softens stools by drawing water from the body into the large intestine. It can also help reduce ammonia levels in the blood of patients with liver disease.
Sonlac Syrup often causes diarrhea, flatulence (excess gas), nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. Diarrhea and abdominal pain may occur due to a high dose and should be minimized by adjusting the dosage. Flatulence may occur during the first few days of treatment and usually disappears after some time. There is also a possibility of electrolyte imbalance, though this is uncommon.
You should take Sonlac Syrup as directed by your doctor. You can continue using it for as long as the constipation persists or even up to a week. For hepatic encephalopathy, treatment may be longer, possibly extending over several months.

Usually, one laxative is sufficient for relieving constipation. However, if you need more than one, consult your doctor as they may advise you on taking a second laxative in conjunction with Sonlac Syrup. Using two laxatives together increases the risk of side effects.
Taking a higher dose of Sonlac Syrup can cause abdominal pain, electrolyte imbalance, and diarrhea that may persist for several days.
