How it works

Sigpod 50mg Syrup is an antibiotic. It works by preventing the formation of the bacterial protective covering (cell wall) which is essential for the survival of the bacteria. By doing so, this medicine stops the infection-causing bacteria from growing further and prevents the infection from spreading without making the bacteria resistant to further treatment.

Quick Tips

Your child must complete the entire course of antibiotics. Stopping too soon may cause the bacteria to multiply again or cause another infection. Give this medicine with food to avoid an upset stomach. Encourage your child to drink plenty of water in case diarrhea develops as a side effect. Conditions like common cold and flu are caused by viruses. Never use this medicine for such conditions. Only give Sigpod 50mg Syrup to your child for their current infection. Never save medicine for future illnesses. Stop this medicine and immediately report to your child’s doctor in case your child develops an itchy rash, facial swelling, or breathing difficulties while taking this medicine.

Frequently asked questions

What if I give too much of Sigpod 50mg Syrup by mistake?

Giving an extra dose of Sigpod 50mg Syrup is unlikely to cause harm. However, if you suspect your child has received too much of the medication, contact a doctor immediately. An overdose may lead to unwanted side effects and potentially worsen their condition.

Are there any possible serious side effects of Sigpod 50mg Syrup?

Some severe side effects of this medicine include persistent vomiting, kidney damage, allergy, diarrhea, and severe gastrointestinal infections. If you experience any of these symptoms, consult your child's doctor for guidance.

Can other medicines be given at the same time as Sigpod 50mg Syrup?

Sigpod 50mg Syrup may interact with other medications or substances. Inform your child's doctor about any other medications they are taking before starting Sigpod 50mg Syrup. Also, consult their doctor before giving any additional medication to your child.

Can I get my child vaccinated while on treatment with Sigpod 50mg Syrup?

Antibiotics generally do not interfere with vaccine ingredients or cause adverse reactions in children who have just been vaccinated. However, children taking antibiotics should wait until they recover from their illness before getting vaccinated.

Which lab tests may my child undergo while taking Sigpod 50mg Syrup on a long-term basis?

Your child's doctor may recommend periodic kidney function tests and liver function tests to monitor their condition.

The mucus coming out of my child's nose is yellow-green. Is it a sign of a bacterial infection?

Yellow or green mucus in the nose does not necessarily indicate the need for antibiotics. This can occur during a common cold, which is usually caused by a virus and resolves on its own within 7-10 days.

My child is having a sore throat and ear infection. Can I give antibiotics?

No, more than 80% of sore throats and ear infections are caused by viruses and do not require antibiotic treatment. If your child has symptoms such as a sore throat, runny nose, barky cough, pain, or discharge from the ear, it is likely due to a viral infection. Consult their doctor for guidance.

Does a common cold caused by viruses always result in a secondary bacterial infection? When to start an antibiotic to prevent infection?

In most cases, bacterial infections do not follow viral infections. Using antibiotics to treat viral infections may lead to side effects without benefiting your child's health. Consult with their doctor before using antibiotics.

Can Sigpod 50mg Syrup impact my child's digestive system?

Children often experience stomach upset while taking antibiotics, and the good bacteria in their gastrointestinal tract may be affected. Sigpod 50mg Syrup may also kill off beneficial bacteria, increasing the risk of developing other infections. If your child experiences diarrhea while on this medication, contact their doctor for guidance.

Can Sigpod 50mg Syrup lead to bacterial resistance in my child?

Yes, irregular treatment, repeated use, or misuse of Sigpod 50mg Syrup can lead to bacterial resistance. Resistant bacteria are no longer killed by antibiotics and may cause reinfection.
