Introduction
Shimox-CL Dry Syrup is an antibiotic medicine that helps treat bacterial infections of the ear, nose, throat, chest, lungs, teeth, skin, and urinary tract. It is capable of killing bacteria that have become resistant to other therapies and thus also helps treat tuberculosis that is resistant to other treatments.
Directions for Use
Your child must complete the entire course of antibiotics. Stopping too soon may cause the bacteria to multiply again or cause another infection.
How it works
Shimox-CL Dry Syrup is an antibiotic. It has two active agents amoxycillin and clavulanic acid. Amoxycillin works by preventing the formation of the bacterial protective covering (cell wall) essential for the survival of the bacteria. Whereas clavulanic acid serves a special purpose of inhibiting an enzyme (beta-lactamase) that is produced by resistant bacteria. This makes the combination of amoxycillin and clavulanic acid an effective line of treatment for many types of infections.
Quick Tips
Your child must complete the entire course of antibiotics. Stopping too soon may cause the bacteria to multiply again or cause another infection. Frequently asked questions
Can other medicines be given at the same time as Shimox-CL Dry Syrup?
It's crucial to inform your child's doctor about any other medications they are taking before starting Shimox-CL Dry Syrup. This will help ensure safe usage and minimize potential interactions.
Can I get my child vaccinated while on treatment with Shimox-CL Dry Syrup?
Antibiotics generally do not interfere with vaccine ingredients or cause negative reactions in children who have been recently vaccinated. However, it is advisable to wait for your child's recovery from the illness before vaccination. Once your child feels better, a doctor can assess whether and when to administer the vaccine.
Which lab tests may my child undergo while taking Shimox-CL Dry Syrup on a long-term basis?
Periodically monitoring kidney and liver function is often recommended for children on prolonged antibiotic therapy as a precaution.
Can I give a higher than the recommended dose of Shimox-CL Dry Syrup to my child?
Giving a higher dosage than prescribed can increase potential side effects. If your child experiences worsened symptoms, consult with their doctor for reevaluation.
Can I stop giving Shimox-CL Dry Syrup to my child when the symptoms are relieved?
Do not discontinue Shimox-CL Dry Syrup unless the full course of treatment is completed. Symptoms may improve before complete eradication of the infection. Continue the medicine as prescribed.
Can the use of Shimox-CL Dry Syrup cause diarrhea?
Yes, Shimox-CL Dry Syrup can cause diarrhea. It's important to remember that this is a medication designed to target bacterial infections. The antibiotic might also affect the beneficial bacteria in your child’s stomach, leading to diarrhea. Encourage your child to drink plenty of fluids if they experience diarrhea. If the problem persists and you notice signs like less frequent urination with dark-colored and strong-smelling urine, contact a doctor before giving any additional medication.
Do all viral common colds result in secondary bacterial infection?
Most times, bacterial infections do not follow viral infections. In fact, giving antibiotics in a viral infection could increase your child's risk of developing side effects. Antibiotics should only be used after consulting with your doctor.
The mucus coming out of my child’s nose is yellow-green. Is it a sign of a bacterial infection?
Yellow or green mucus in the nose is not always indicative of bacterial infection during a common cold. In fact, it's normal for mucus to thicken and change color from clear to yellow or green. Symptoms typically subside within 7-10 days.
Is there any sign which shows that my child needs immediate medical attention?
Call your child's doctor immediately if they experience severe allergic reactions (breathing problems, skin rashes), gastrointestinal infections (diarrhea), or liver damage (weakness, paleness, vomiting). While rare, these side effects are serious and require professional intervention.
