How it works
Safelox MZ Syrup is a combination of three active ingredients. While two of its ingredients, namely ofloxacin and metronidazole are antibiotics, simethicone is a gas-absorbing agent that improves gastric tolerability of the combination. The antibiotic ingredients interfere with the genetic material of bacteria by impairing its DNA. This kills the infection-causing bacteria, preventing its growth and stopping the infection. On the other hand, Simethicone binds with the gas bubbles produced as a result of the other two ingredients or as a result of some other problem. By doing so, it aids in the removal of gases and provides relief in stomach pain and bloating.
Quick Tips
Diarrhea is a common side effect of this medicine. If it occurs, make sure your child drinks plenty of water. Eating citrus fruit or sipping plenty of water or fruit juice may help. Do not give any calcium, magnesium, iron, vitamin, or antacid within 2 hours of taking Safelox MZ Syrup as these can affect the absorption of the medicine. Never use this medicine for the common cold and flu as they are caused by viruses and Safelox MZ Syrup treats only bacterial infections. Discontinue Safelox MZ Syrup and inform the doctor immediately if your child develops a rash, itchy skin, swelling of face and mouth, or has difficulty in breathing. Only give Safelox MZ Syrup to your child for their current infection. Never save medicine for future illnesses.

Can Safelox MZ Syrup be given alongside other medications used for cough and cold?
Do not administer Safelox MZ Syrup with cough and cold medications. This is because the ingredients in Safelox MZ Syrup can interact with alcohol-containing medications, such as cough syrups, leading to disulfiram reaction - a reaction that can cause nausea, vomiting, flushing, dizziness, and other uncomfortable symptoms.
What should I do if my child accidentally consumes more than the prescribed dosage of Safelox MZ Syrup?
While it's unlikely to cause harm from taking an extra dose of Safelox MZ Syrup, immediate consultation with a doctor is necessary. Symptoms such as seizures, tremors, severe headaches, sudden weakness, blood cell abnormalities, and rapid and irregular heartbeat may occur.
What should I do if my child's condition does not improve despite taking Safelox MZ Syrup for the prescribed duration?
If your child’s condition does not show significant improvement after taking Safelox MZ Syrup for the recommended duration, consult with a doctor. A different antibiotic may be necessary depending on the specific bacteria causing the infection.
Can other medications be used at the same time as Safelox MZ Syrup?
Safelox MZ Syrup can potentially interact with other medications or substances. Inform your doctor about all other medicines your child is taking before starting Safelox MZ Syrup, and consult them before administering any additional medication to your child.
How should Safelox MZ Syrup be stored?
Store Safelox MZ Syrup at room temperature in a dry, dark place, away from direct sunlight or heat sources. Make sure all medicines are kept out of your child’s reach to prevent accidental consumption.
Can I get my child vaccinated while they are on treatment with Safelox MZ Syrup?
Antibiotics usually do not interfere with the ingredients in vaccines or cause a negative reaction in a child who has been recently vaccinated. However, children taking antibiotics should not be vaccinated until their infection is resolved.
My child has been passing red-brown urine since starting Safelox MZ Syrup. Is this normal?
Safelox MZ Syrup contains metronidazole, an active ingredient that can cause reddish-brown urine in children. This is a common side effect and will subside once treatment with Safelox MZ Syrup is completed.
