Tablet

Introduction

Rivaxa 20mg Tablet is commonly used in patients with irregular heart rhythm (atrial fibrillation) to prevent clot formation. You may need to take this medicine for many years even for life in some cases. Do not stop taking it or change the dose without guidance from your doctor. It could quickly put you more at risk of having a heart attack, stroke, or thrombosis (formation of a blood clot within a blood vessel). You can reduce your risk of having a blood clot by making changes to your lifestyle such as not smoking, eating a healthy diet, getting regular exercise, and losing weight if you need to.

Frequently asked questions

What are the potential side effects of Rivaxa 20mg Tablet?

Some common side effects of Rivaxa 20mg Tablet include prolonged or excessive bleeding, shortness of breath (which might signal bleeding), weakness, fatigue, paleness, dizziness, headache, and unexplained swelling. Other possible side effects are severe skin rashes and allergic reactions, bruising, coughing up blood, bleeding from the skin or under the skin, and swelling and pain in the limbs. Rivaxa 20mg Tablet may also increase bilirubin levels and reduce platelet count. Some individuals might experience fainting episodes, rapid heartbeat, and dry mouth. If you notice any side effects, contact your doctor immediately.

Is Rivaxa 20mg Tablet a blood thinner?

Yes, Rivaxa 20mg Tablet is prescribed as a blood thinner. It works by preventing the blood from clotting within blood vessels and also prevents recurring blood clots in blood vessels. It may be used to treat blood clots found in the veins of the legs and in the blood vessels of the lungs.

Is Rivaxa 20mg Tablet dangerous?

Rivaxa 20mg Tablet offers significant benefits but can increase bleeding risk, even with minor injuries. It may lead to serious bleeding that needs urgent medical attention. This risk might be higher for individuals taking Rivaxa 20mg Tablet alongside other blood-thinning medications. Always report any bleeding you experience, regardless of its severity, to your doctor.

What foods should I avoid when on blood thinners?

For those on other blood-thinning medications like warfarin, it's best to avoid foods that increase vitamin K activity or trigger blood clotting. Examples include spinach, brussels sprouts, mustard greens, broccoli, asparagus, and green tea. However, these foods are not strictly restricted with Rivaxa 20mg Tablet.
