How it works
Rion DS Dry Syrup is an antibiotic. It has two active agents amoxycillin and clavulanic acid. Amoxycillin works by preventing the formation of the bacterial protective covering (cell wall) essential for the survival of the bacteria. Whereas clavulanic acid serves a special purpose of inhibiting an enzyme (beta-lactamase) that is produced by resistant bacteria. This makes the combination of amoxycillin and clavulanic acid an effective line of treatment for many types of infections.
Quick Tips
Your child must complete the entire course of antibiotics. Stopping too soon may cause the bacteria to multiply again or cause another infection. Frequently asked questions
Can other medicines be given at the same time as Rion DS Dry Syrup?
Rion DS Dry Syrup may interact with other medications or substances. It's crucial to inform your child's doctor about any other medications they are taking before starting Rion DS Dry Syrup. Always consult a healthcare professional before administering any medicine to your child, as there might be specific instructions.
Can I get my child vaccinated while on treatment with Rion DS Dry Syrup?
Generally, antibiotics do not interfere with the ingredients in vaccines or cause a negative reaction in children after vaccination. However, it's essential to postpone vaccinations until your child fully recovers from the illness they are fighting. Once symptoms subside, the vaccine can be administered as per doctor’s advice.
Which lab tests may my child undergo while taking Rion DS Dry Syrup on a long-term basis?
Periodically, a doctor might monitor kidney and liver function tests if your child is receiving long-term treatment with Rion DS Dry Syrup to ensure their well-being. These tests help assess the drug's effects on these organs.
Can I give a higher than the recommended dose of Rion DS Dry Syrup to my child?
Giving a higher than prescribed dose of this medication can increase the likelihood of adverse effects. If your child experiences increased symptoms, it's crucial to consult their doctor for re-evaluation.
Can I stop giving Rion DS Dry Syrup to my child when the symptoms are relieved?
Do not discontinue this medicine unless your child has completed the full course of treatment. The symptoms may improve before complete eradication of the infection. Therefore, continue using the medication until the doctor recommends otherwise.
Can the use of Rion DS Dry Syrup cause diarrhea?
Yes, Rion DS Dry Syrup can potentially cause diarrhea as it is an antibiotic that eliminates harmful bacteria. Additionally, the medication can disrupt beneficial bacteria in your child's stomach, leading to diarrhea. Encourage your child to drink plenty of fluids if they experience diarrhea and seek medical attention if it persists or symptoms of dehydration appear (e.g., reduced urination, dark-colored urine with a strong odor).
Do all viral common colds result in secondary bacterial infection?
Most viral infections do not lead to bacterial infections. In fact, giving antibiotics without a doctor's consultation can be unsafe and increase your child's risk of side effects. Always consult a healthcare professional before administering any medication.
The mucus coming out of my child’s nose is yellow-green. Is it a sign of a bacterial infection?
Yellow or green mucus in the nose is not necessarily a sign of bacterial infection, especially during a common cold. It's typical for nasal mucus to thicken and change color during a viral infection. Symptoms typically last for 7-10 days.
Is there any sign which shows that my child needs immediate medical attention?
If your child experiences serious allergic reactions (breathing difficulties, skin rashes), gastrointestinal infections (diarrhea), or liver damage (weakness, pallor, vomiting), it is crucial to seek immediate medical care. These are potentially severe side effects and require expert attention.
