Key Information

Short Description

Rikiclav Dry Syrup is an antibiotic medicine that helps treat bacterial infections of the ear, nose, throat, chest, lungs, teeth, skin, and urinary tract.

Dosage Form

Dry Syrup

Introduction

Rikiclav Dry Syrup is an antibiotic medicine that helps treat bacterial infections of the ear, nose, throat, chest, lungs, teeth, skin, and urinary tract. It is capable of killing bacteria that have become resistant to other therapies and thus also helps treat tuberculosis that is resistant to other treatments.

Directions for Use

Your child must complete the entire course of antibiotics. Stopping too soon may cause the bacteria to multiply again or cause another infection.

Safety Information

Side Effects

Bitter taste in the mouth after intake Diarrhea Itchy rash Facial swelling Breathing difficulty

How it works

Rikiclav Dry Syrup is an antibiotic. It has two active agents amoxycillin and clavulanic acid. Amoxycillin works by preventing the formation of the bacterial protective covering (cell wall) essential for the survival of the bacteria. Whereas clavulanic acid serves a special purpose of inhibiting an enzyme (beta-lactamase) that is produced by resistant bacteria. This makes the combination of amoxycillin and clavulanic acid an effective line of treatment for many types of infections.

Quick Tips

Your child must complete the entire course of antibiotics Encourage your child to drink plenty of water in case diarrhea develops as a side effect Never give Rikiclav Dry Syrup until and unless prescribed by the doctor Do not give Rikiclav Dry Syrup to treat common cold and flu-like symptoms caused by viruses Check 'expiry' before giving Rikiclav Dry Syrup to your child

Frequently asked questions

Can other medicines be given at the same time as Rikiclav Dry Syrup?

It's essential to inform your child's doctor about any other medications they're taking before starting Rikiclav Dry Syrup. Additionally, consult with their doctor before giving any medication to your child.

Can I get my child vaccinated while on treatment with Rikiclav Dry Syrup?

Antibiotics like Rikiclav Dry Syrup generally don't interfere with vaccine ingredients or cause adverse reactions in children who have just been vaccinated. However, it's recommended that children take antibiotics for a short period after being vaccinated to minimize the risk of complications.

Which lab tests may my child undergo while taking Rikiclav Dry Syrup on a long-term basis?

To monitor your child's condition, their doctor may perform periodic kidney and liver function tests during prolonged therapy with Rikiclav Dry Syrup.

Can I give a higher than the recommended dose of Rikiclav Dry Syrup to my child?

No, administering a higher dose of Rikiclav Dry Syrup can increase the risk of side effects. If your child experiences increased severity of symptoms, consult with their doctor for re-evaluation.

Can I stop giving Rikiclav Dry Syrup to my child when the symptoms are relieved?

No, it's crucial not to stop giving this medication unless the full course of treatment is complete, even if your child feels better. Symptoms may improve before the infection is fully cured. Therefore, continue administering the medicine for the recommended duration.

Can the use of Rikiclav Dry Syrup cause diarrhea?

Yes, Rikiclav Dry Syrup may cause diarrhea as it kills harmful bacteria and can also affect beneficial bacteria in your child's stomach. If diarrhea persists or is accompanied by signs of dehydration (infrequent urination with dark-colored and strong-smelling urine), consult with a doctor.

Do all viral common colds result in secondary bacterial infection?

Most of the time, bacterial infections do not follow viral infections. In fact, giving antibiotics for viral infections can increase your child's risk of developing side effects. Use antibiotics only after consulting with their doctor.

The mucus coming out of my child’s nose is yellow-green. Is it a sign of a bacterial infection?

Yellow or green mucus in the nose does not necessarily mean that antibiotics are needed. During a common cold, it's normal for mucus to thicken up and change color. Symptoms often last for 7-10 days.

Is there any sign which shows that my child needs immediate medical attention?

You must call your child's doctor right away if your child experiences serious allergic reactions (breathing problems, skin rashes), gastrointestinal infections (diarrhea), and liver damage (weakness, paleness, vomiting). These side effects are rare but serious and require expert attention.
