Frequently asked questions
What is Pretec 2500mcg Injection?
Pretec 2500mcg Injection contains vitamin B12. Vitamin B12 is an essential nutrient that the body needs to make red blood cells and maintain a healthy nervous system. It also helps release energy from food and use vitamin B11 (folic acid).
Why might I be deficient in vitamin B12?
You can get vitamin B12 from sources like meat, fish, eggs, and dairy products. However, vegetarians or vegans may not get enough Vitamin B12 as it is not found naturally in foods like fruits, vegetables, and grains. Therefore, a deficiency of vitamin B12 is more common in individuals who follow vegetarian or vegan diets.
What happens if I have vitamin B12 deficiency?
A deficiency in vitamin B12 can lead to symptoms such as tiredness and weakness, constipation, loss of appetite, weight loss, and megaloblastic anemia (a condition where red blood cells become larger than normal). It may also cause nerve problems like numbness and tingling in the hands and feet. Other potential symptoms include balance problems, depression, confusion, dementia, poor memory, soreness of the mouth or tongue.
Is Pretec 2500mcg Injection safe?
Pretec 2500mcg Injection is generally well tolerated and considered safe. However, in rare cases, some side effects may occur such as nausea, diarrhea, anorexia, or rash. Discontinue the use of this medicine if a rash occurs.

Pretec 2500mcg Injection can be injected directly into a vein (intravenously) or into a muscle (intramuscularly). The usual dose is 1 ampoule (0.5 mg of Pretec 2500mcg Injection), and it is given three times a week. After two months, 1 ampoule (0.5 mg of Pretec 2500mcg Injection) is administered every one to three months as part of maintenance therapy.
What precautions should be taken when administering Pretec 2500mcg Injection?
Avoid injecting the medication in the same site each time. If there's intense pain while injecting or if blood flows back into the syringe, remove the needle and re-insert at a different site.
