Introduction

Pentasa 2gm Prolonged Release Granules is an aminosalicylate used to treat mild inflammatory bowel disease such as ulcerative colitis and Crohn's ileocolitis. It should be taken with food and the dose will depend on what you are being treated for. You should keep taking this medicine for as long as your doctor recommends. If you stop treatment too early, your symptoms may come back and your condition may worsen.

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Check the label for directions before use. Empty the granules in a glass of water/milk, stir it and consume immediately. Pentasa 2gm Prolonged Release Granules may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.

Interacting Medicines

Azathioprine Mercaptopurine

Pentasa 2gm Prolonged Release Granules is an aminosalicylate. It works by suppressing the production of chemical messengers (prostaglandins) that cause inflammation (swelling) in the intestines. This reduces ulceration, bleeding and stomach pain, and prevents future flare-ups of the disease.

You have been prescribed Pentasa 2gm Prolonged Release Granules for treating and lowering the symptoms of mild inflammatory bowel disease such as ulcerative colitis. Your doctor may monitor your kidney and liver functions before you start treatment with this medicine and regularly thereafter. Do not take Pentasa 2gm Prolonged Release Granules if you are allergic to aspirin or if you have blood disorders. Do not stop taking the medication suddenly without talking to your doctor.
