Enema
Pentasa 1gm Enema is only for rectal route and should not be taken orally. It must be used under the supervision of a doctor or healthcare professional. Stay in a lying position for at least 15 minutes after the insertion of suppositories. The dose will depend on what you are being treated for but take it exactly as your doctor prescribes. You should keep taking this medicine for as long as your doctor recommends. If you stop treatment too early your symptoms may come back and your condition may worsen.
Your doctor or nurse will give you this medicine. Kindly do not self-administer.
Pentasa 1gm Enema is an aminosalicylate. It works directly on the site of inflammation (swelling) in the lower parts of large intestine (colon and rectum) to provide rapid relief from attacks of ulcerative colitis. It suppresses the production of chemical messengers (prostaglandins) that cause intestinal inflammation thereby reducing ulceration bleeding and painful symptoms.
You have been prescribed Pentasa 1gm Enema for treating and lowering the symptoms of mild inflammatory bowel disease such as ulcerative colitis. It is for administration into the back passage (rectum). It must not be taken by mouth. Your doctor may monitor your kidney and liver functions before you start treatment with this medicine and regularly thereafter. Inform your doctor if you have severely decreased kidney or liver function. Do not use Pentasa 1gm Enema if you are allergic to aspirin or if you have blood disorders. Do not stop using the medication suddenly without talking to your doctor.
Continue to use Pentasa 1gm Enema as advised by the doctor, even if you feel better at the beginning of your treatment. Do not stop using Pentasa 1gm Enema without consulting your doctor.
Pentasa 1gm Enema is used for the treatment of ulcerative colitis, however, you should not start using the medicine on your own. Consult a doctor who will prescribe you the right dose and duration of treatment and will address any related or other concerns that you have.
You should avoid alcohol if you have ulcerative colitis, as alcohol will irritate your stomach and intestine which will worsen your condition. Although alcohol does not interfere with the working of Pentasa 1gm Enema, you should consult your doctor before using alcohol.
Use Pentasa 1gm Enema exactly as directed by your doctor. If you are using Pentasa 1gm Enema suppositories you should insert it rectally, once daily at bedtime.
