Introduction
Penalin CV 200 mg/28.5 mg Tablet is an antibiotic medicine that helps treat bacterial infections of the ear, nose, throat, chest, lungs, teeth, skin, and urinary tract. It is capable of killing bacteria that have become resistant to other therapies and thus also helps treat tuberculosis that is resistant to other treatments.
Directions for Use
Your child must complete the entire course of antibiotics. Stopping too soon may cause the bacteria to multiply again or cause another infection.
How it works
Penalin CV 200 mg/28.5 mg Tablet is an antibiotic. It has two active agents amoxycillin and clavulanic acid. Amoxycillin works by preventing the formation of the bacterial protective covering (cell wall) essential for the survival of the bacteria. Whereas clavulanic acid serves a special purpose of inhibiting an enzyme (beta-lactamase) that is produced by resistant bacteria. This makes the combination of amoxycillin and clavulanic acid an effective line of treatment for many types of infections.

Can I get my child vaccinated while on treatment with Penalin CV 200 mg/28.5 mg Tablet?
Antibiotics generally do not interfere with vaccinations or cause adverse reactions in children who have recently received one. Consult with your doctor for guidance once your child feels better and before any vaccination.
Which lab tests may my child undergo while taking Penalin CV 200 mg/28.5 mg Tablet on a long-term basis?
Periodically, the doctor might consider monitoring kidney and liver function during prolonged therapy.
Can I give a higher than the recommended dose of Penalin CV 200 mg/28.5 mg Tablet to my child?
Giving a dose above the recommended dosage of this medication can increase the risk of potential side effects. If your child experiences worsened symptoms, seek medical advice for re-evaluation.
Can I stop giving Penalin CV 200 mg/28.5 mg Tablet to my child when the symptoms are relieved?
Do not cease the medication without consulting your doctor unless the full course of treatment is completed. Symptoms may improve before the infection fully resolves, therefore continuing the medicine until complete.

If the diarrhea persists or you notice any signs of dehydration like dark-colored and strong-smelling urine, seek medical advice from your doctor before administering other medications.
Do all viral common colds result in secondary bacterial infection?
Most viral common colds do not result in bacterial infections. Antibiotics should only be used after consulting a healthcare professional if the symptoms indicate the presence of a bacterial infection. The mucus coming out of my child’s nose is yellow-green. Is it a sign of a bacterial infection?
Yellow or green mucus in the nose does not necessarily indicate that antibiotics are needed for bacterial infections. Changes in mucus color during a common cold are normal as it thickens and turns from clear to yellow or green. Symptoms typically last for 7-10 days.
Is there any sign which shows that my child needs immediate medical attention?
If your child experiences serious allergic reactions (breathing difficulties, skin rashes), gastrointestinal problems (diarrhea), or liver damage (weakness, paleness, vomiting), seek immediate medical help. Though rare, these side effects warrant professional attention.
