Suspension
Pegtoline O Suspension is an antibiotic medicine that is effective against a wide range of bacterial and parasitic infections. In children, it is used to treat infections of the teeth, lungs, gastrointestinal tract, urinary tract, and genital tract.
Your child must complete the entire course of antibiotics. Stopping too soon may cause the bacteria to multiply again, become resistant, or cause another infection.
Pegtoline O Suspension is an antibiotic having ofloxacin and metronidazole as its active ingredients. Both these medicines damage the DNA of the infection-causing bacteria, thus killing it by stopping its growth. This prevents the infection from spreading without making the bacteria resistant to further treatment.
If your child develops diarrhea as a side effect, encourage them to drink plenty of water. Eating citrus fruit or sipping plenty of water or fruit juice may help if your child experiences an altered taste. Do not give any calcium, magnesium, iron, vitamin, or antacid to your child within 2 hours of taking Pegtoline O Suspension as these can affect the absorption of the medicine. Conditions like common cold and flu are caused by viruses. Never use this medicine for such conditions. Discontinue Pegtoline O Suspension and inform the doctor immediately if your child develops a rash, itchy skin, swelling of face and mouth, or has difficulty in breathing. Never save the medicine for future illnesses since its effectiveness in future infections cannot be guaranteed.
While an extra dose of Pegtoline O Suspension will not have any side effects, you must always be vigilant. If you believe you've given too much Pegtoline O Suspension to your child, immediately contact a healthcare provider. Overdose increases the risk of unwanted side effects like seizures, tremors, severe headaches, sudden weakness, blood cell abnormalities, and rapid and irregular heartbeats. Seek immediate medical attention if any of these symptoms are observed.
If your child doesn't show improvement on Pegtoline O Suspension despite completing the prescribed course, it may mean the medicine is not acting against the infection-causing bacteria. In such a case, consult your child’s doctor. They might prescribe another antibiotic with more specific action against the bacteria causing the infection.
While Pegtoline O Suspension may interact with some other medications or substances, it is vital to tell your child's doctor about all other medications they are taking before starting treatment. Additionally, consult your child’s doctor before giving any medication to them.
Antibiotics typically do not interfere with the ingredients in vaccines or cause a bad reaction in a child who has recently been vaccinated. However, children taking antibiotics should not receive vaccines until they recover from their illness. Once your child feels better, you can administer the vaccine.
Inform the doctor if your child has a history of heart disease, genetic disorders affecting blood vessels, seizures, psychiatric disorders, diabetes, photoallergy (an allergy triggered by sunlight), neuromuscular disorders, or rheumatoid arthritis. This is because there's a potential for Pegtoline O Suspension to worsen these conditions and cause complications.
Yes, it is normal. Pegtoline O Suspension contains metronidazole, an active ingredient that can cause reddish-brown urine. This is a harmless side effect. It will subside once the medication is stopped after the treatment period.
No, do not give Pegtoline O Suspension alongside cough and cold medications as they may interfere with each other's effectiveness.
