How it works
Oxymentin Dry Syrup is an antibiotic. It has two active agents amoxycillin and clavulanic acid. Amoxycillin works by preventing the formation of the bacterial protective covering (cell wall) essential for the survival of the bacteria. Whereas clavulanic acid serves a special purpose of inhibiting an enzyme (beta-lactamase) that is produced by resistant bacteria. This makes the combination of amoxycillin and clavulanic acid an effective line of treatment for many types of infections.
Quick Tips
Your child must complete the entire course of antibiotics. Stopping too soon may cause the bacteria to multiply again or cause another infection. Your child may have a bitter taste in the mouth after the intake of Oxymentin Dry Syrup. Eating citrus fruit or sipping plenty of water or fruit juice may help. Encourage your child to drink plenty of water in case diarrhea develops as a side effect. Never give Oxymentin Dry Syrup to treat common cold and flu-like symptoms caused by viruses. Never save medicine for future illnesses. It cannot be said whether the same medicine will work on future infections.

Frequently asked questions
Can other medicines be given at the same time as Oxymentin Dry Syrup?
Oxymentin Dry Syrup may interact with other medications or substances. It is important to inform your child's healthcare provider about all other medications they are taking before starting Oxymentin Dry Syrup. Consulting with their doctor is also essential for safe administration of any medication, including supplements and over-the-counter drugs, after starting treatment.
Can I get my child vaccinated while on treatment with Oxymentin Dry Syrup?
Generally, antibiotics do not interfere with the ingredients in vaccines or cause a bad reaction in a child already under antibiotic therapy. However, children taking antibiotics should avoid vaccination until they have recovered from the illness. Once your child feels better, their doctor can suggest an appropriate time for vaccination.
Which lab tests may my child undergo while taking Oxymentin Dry Syrup on a long-term basis?
Periodically, after prolonged therapy with Oxymentin Dry Syrup, the doctor might consider monitoring kidney and liver function tests to assess your child's overall well-being.
Can I give a higher than the recommended dose of Oxymentin Dry Syrup to my child?
Giving a higher dosage of this medication can increase the risk of side effects. If your child experiences worsening symptoms, consult their doctor for re-evaluation.
Can I stop giving Oxymentin Dry Syrup to my child when the symptoms are relieved?
Do not stop giving this medication unless the full course of treatment is complete. Even if you feel better, it's important to continue taking Oxymentin Dry Syrup until the doctor has instructed otherwise to ensure complete eradication of the infection and prevent further complications.
Can the use of Oxymentin Dry Syrup cause diarrhea?
Yes, Oxymentin Dry Syrup can cause diarrhea. This is because it acts as an antibiotic to eliminate harmful bacteria. Moreover, this medication may disrupt the balance of good bacteria in your child's digestive system, leading to diarrhea. Encourage your child to drink plenty of fluids. If diarrhea persists or if signs of dehydration (e.g., infrequent urination, dark-colored and strong-smelling urine) develop, seek medical advice immediately.
Do all viral common colds result in secondary bacterial infection?
While many viral infections are not followed by bacterial infections, it's important to consult your child's doctor before administering antibiotics. Antibiotics can sometimes increase the risk of side effects if used in a situation where they are not needed.
The mucus coming out of my child’s nose is yellow-green. Is it a sign of a bacterial infection?
Yellow or green mucus in the nose is usually associated with a common cold and does not always indicate a bacterial infection. It's normal for mucus to thicken and change its color during a cold. Symptoms typically resolve within 7-10 days. If your child develops signs of severe allergic reactions (breathing difficulties, skin rashes), gastrointestinal problems (diarrhea) or other concerning symptoms, it is important to seek immediate medical attention.
Is there any sign which shows that my child needs immediate medical attention?
If your child experiences severe allergic reactions such as difficulty breathing, skin rashes, gastrointestinal issues like diarrhea, or liver damage (e.g., weakness, paleness, vomiting), seek immediate medical attention.
