It's essential to have regular monitoring of liver enzyme levels during long-term use as this medicine can affect those enzymes.
Otraliv 450mg Tablet SR acts on the liver, concentrating in bile secreted from it. This leads to a suppression of liver-produced cholesterol synthesis and secretion, consequently reducing cholesterol levels in bile. Additionally, it inhibits intestinal absorption of bile salts and cholesterol. The reduced cholesterol saturation in the bile from the liver promotes gradual dissolution of cholesterol gallstones, leading to their reduction in size and eventual elimination. It also improves liver enzyme levels by increasing bile flow through the liver, thereby protecting liver cells.
There is a potential for weight gain with Otraliv 450mg Tablet SR, but it's not frequent. The medication may cause weight gain in patients with liver disease that leads to chronic bile stasis (impaired bile flow) within the liver's small bile ducts. This condition can hinder bile flow from the liver to the small intestine, impacting weight management. The degree of weight gain varies from person to person based on individual conditions. Consult your doctor if you notice unexplained weight gain.
Avoid combining Otraliv 450mg Tablet SR with antacids without consulting your doctor, as this may reduce the medicine's effectiveness. It's crucial to discuss any medications (like cholestyramine or colestipol) that might interact with Otraliv 450mg Tablet SR. Ensure you follow your doctor’s recommendations regarding medication timing and dosage when taking these. Additionally, avoid oral contraceptives, estrogenic hormones, and blood cholesterol-lowering agents such as clofibrate, as they may increase the risk of gallstone formation and act against Otraliv 450mg Tablet SR's intended effects.
