How it works
Otocin-C Ear Drop is a combination of four medicines. Chloramphenicol is an antibiotic which stops the growth of bacteria. It does so by preventing synthesis of essential proteins required by bacteria to carry out vital functions. This does not directly kill the bacteria but prevents them from increasing in numbers and eventually clears up the infection. Prednisolone is a steroid which works by blocking the production of certain chemical messengers in the body that cause inflammation (redness and swelling) and allergies. Acetic acid belongs to the class of medications called antibacterial and antifungal agents. It works by maintaining the pH thereby preventing the growth of bacteria and fungi. Benzocaine works by blocking pain signals from the peripheral nerves to brain which decreases the sensation of pain. Thus Otocin-C Ear Drop treats ear infections.
Quick Tips
Otocin-C Ear Drop must be used as per dose and duration suggested by the doctor. Do not touch the tip to any surface or to your ear to avoid contamination. Talk to your doctor if your symptoms haven't started to improve within two days of starting treatment if they get worse during treatment or if you get another ear infection. Avoid contact with your eyes, nose or mouth. Rinse it off with water if you accidentally get the drop in these areas. Stop using medicine and inform your doctor if you notice ear irritation, burning sensation or allergic reaction.
