Ciclosporin
Opsiliv 300 Tablet is a hepatoprotective medication. It works by reducing the amount of cholesterol in the blood and helps dissolve gallbladder stones that are composed mainly of cholesterol. It also improves liver enzymes, protects liver cells from injury caused due to toxic bile acids, and improves liver function.
Take this medicine after a meal with a glass of milk or water Eat a healthy diet Exercise regularly Avoid alcohol intake Drink plenty of fluids and inform your doctor if diarrhea persists or if you find blood in your stools Do not stop taking the medication without talking to your doctor
The timing for taking this medication may vary depending on your specific condition. Your doctor will recommend a dosage of 2 to 3 doses per day and suggest the last dose at bedtime. It can be taken with water, milk, or food. If prescribed for gallstones, usually one daily dose at night is recommended. Ideally, take it at a 6-hour gap (e.g., 8:00 AM, 2:00 PM, and 8:00 PM).
Opsiliv 300 Tablet is generally considered a safe and effective medication. However, like any medication, it can cause side effects. These may include diarrhea. If you experience diarrhea, your doctor may adjust the dosage. If this persists, treatment may need to be discontinued. Furthermore, long-term use of this medication may temporarily affect liver enzyme levels, which will be closely monitored by your healthcare provider.
Opsiliv 300 Tablet works on the liver to increase its concentration in bile secreted from the liver. This, in turn, suppresses cholesterol synthesis and secretion by the liver, thereby lowering cholesterol levels in bile. The medication also prevents the intestines from absorbing bile salts and cholesterol. Reduced cholesterol saturation in the bile from the liver leads to the gradual breakdown of cholesterol-containing gallstones, decreasing their size over time and ultimately dissolving them. It also reduces elevated liver enzyme levels by increasing bile flow through the liver, protecting liver cells.
There is a potential for weight gain with Opsiliv 300 Tablet use, although it's not common. However, this medication can lead to weight gain in patients who have underlying liver disease associated with chronic bile stasis (obstruction) in the small bile ducts of the liver. In these cases, bile cannot flow from the liver to the small intestine. The chance of experiencing weight gain varies among individuals depending on the condition; it's important to consult your doctor if you notice any unusual weight changes.
Avoid taking antacids without consulting your doctor as they can reduce the effectiveness of Opsiliv 300 Tablet. Also, avoid cholestyramine or colestipol medications as they can decrease the efficacy of this drug. Consult your doctor about appropriate timing for these medications alongside Opsiliv 300 Tablet. Additionally, avoid taking oral contraceptives, estrogenic hormones and blood cholesterol-lowering agents like clofibrate, as they may increase gallstone formation and counteract the effect of Opsiliv 300.
