Syrup
Introduction
Ondase Syrup may be given before or after meals. To control vomiting caused due to chemotherapy, give this medicine to your child 30 minutes before the procedure. Give it 1 to 2 hours before a radiotherapy session and 1 hour before surgery to prevent your child from vomiting post these procedures. If your child expels out the medicine within 30 minutes of the intake, help your child calm down and repeat the dose. Do not double the dose if it is already time for the next dose. Ondase Syrup may cause some temporary side effects such as headache, constipation, diarrhea, and fatigue. These side effects usually subside once your child’s body adapts to the medicine. In case these side effects persist or become bothersome, do reach out to the doctor on a priority basis.

How it works
During radiotherapy, chemotherapy, abdominal infection, or any major surgeries, the dead cells in the body start releasing a chemical called serotonin directly into the blood. Later, this stimulates special centers in the body that are responsible for inducing vomiting in your child. Giving Ondase Syrup just before the procedure helps block the effect of this chemical on vomiting centers of the brain and prevents vomiting.

Frequently asked questions
What is Ondase Syrup used for?
Ondase Syrup is generally prescribed before major surgery or chemotherapy and radiotherapy sessions. It helps prevent vomiting in children undergoing these procedures. It's also helpful in treating vomiting caused by stomach-related diseases, where the doctor may prescribe it for a few days. Remember to follow the recommended dosage for optimal results.
What if my child takes too much Ondase Syrup?
Accidental overdose of Ondase Syrup is unlikely to cause significant harm. However, contacting your child's doctor immediately is crucial. Overdose can lead to serious side effects like excessive sleepiness, agitation, rapid heartbeat, hypertension, flushing, dilated pupils, sweating, involuntary muscle jerks, uncontrolled eye movements, overactive reflexes, and seizures. These collectively indicate serotonin syndrome. Seek immediate medical attention if these symptoms occur.
How should Ondase Syrup be stored?
Store Ondase Syrup at room temperature in a dry place away from direct sunlight or heat. Keep all medicines out of reach and sight of children to prevent accidental ingestion.
What all medicines should my child avoid while taking Ondase Syrup?
It's usually advised not to give Ondase Syrup with antidepressant medications, apomorphine, anti-migraine medication, painkillers, heart medications, or antibiotics like linezolid. Always consult your child's doctor for personalized guidance regarding medication interactions.
In what conditions do I need to call my child’s doctor right away?
Call your child's doctor immediately if they experience symptoms of serotonin syndrome, including irregular heartbeat, green-colored vomiting, difficulty passing gas, pale skin and eyes, dark-colored urine, restlessness, and insomnia.
My child is having a migraine and is on medication. Can I give Ondase Syrup along with it?
Do not combine Ondase Syrup with medications for depression or migraines because it can increase the risk of serotonin syndrome. Always consult your child's doctor before administering any medicine.
