During radiotherapy, chemotherapy, abdominal infection, or any major surgeries, the dead cells in the body start releasing a chemical called serotonin directly into the blood. Later, this stimulates special centers in the body that are responsible for inducing vomiting in your child. Giving Ondan 2mg Syrup just before the procedure helps block the effect of this chemical on vomiting centers of the brain and prevents vomiting.
Ondan 2mg Syrup effectively controls nausea and bouts of vomiting reflex in children undergoing chemotherapy or radiotherapy sessions. It is fast-acting and starts working within 30 minutes. Practice self-care measures: Give plenty of fluids to your child to avoid dehydration, avoid giving fried and spicy food or heavy meals to your child, ensure that your child eats slowly and in small proportions.
Ondan 2mg Syrup is typically prescribed for patients undergoing major surgery or chemotherapy and radiotherapy. It may be given to prevent nausea after these procedures in children. It is also beneficial in treating vomiting caused by stomach-related diseases. In such cases, your child's doctor may prescribe Ondan 2mg Syrup for a few days.
While accidental overdose of Ondan 2mg Syrup is unlikely to cause severe harm, it's crucial to contact your child's doctor immediately. Excessive intake can lead to serious side effects like excessive drowsiness, agitation, rapid heartbeat, hypertension, flushing, dilated pupils, sweating, involuntary muscle jerks, uncontrolled eye movements, overactive reflexes, and seizures. These collectively represent serotonin syndrome. Consult the doctor without delay if these symptoms occur.
Ondan 2mg Syrup should be stored at room temperature in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and heat. Always keep all medicines out of children's reach to prevent accidental ingestion.
