What should I know before taking Ompec 20mg Capsule?
Do not take it if you are already taking a medicine containing atazanavir and nelfinavir (used for HIV infection). Inform your doctor about any pre-existing liver problems, persistent diarrhea or vomiting, black stools (blood-stained stools), unusual weight loss, trouble swallowing, stomach pain, or indigestion. Be sure to tell your doctor about all other medications you are taking as they may interact with this medicine. Also inform your doctor if you have had an allergic skin reaction with this medicine. It is not recommended for children under 1 year of age or those weighing less than 10 kg.
Can Ompec 20mg Capsule cause diarrhea?

Can Ompec 20mg Capsule cause calcium deficiency and osteoporosis?
It can cause osteoporosis (thinning of bones) as it decreases calcium absorption, leading to calcium deficiency. This increases the risk of bone fractures, especially on long-term use, such as hip, wrist, or spine fractures. Inform your doctor if you have osteoporosis or are taking corticosteroids which can increase the risk of osteoporosis before starting therapy. Consult your doctor about ways to prevent this. Vitamin D and calcium supplements may be advised.

Long-term use for more than 3 months might lead to certain side effects like low magnesium levels, leading to tiredness, confusion, dizziness, shakiness or lightheadedness. You may also experience muscle twitches or irregular heartbeat. For prolonged use exceeding one year, you risk an increased fracture risk (hips, wrists, and spine), stomach infections, and vitamin B12 deficiency. Vitamin B12 deficiency can lead to anemia, which causes fatigue, weakness, or pallor. Additionally, you may have palpitations, shortness of breath, lightheadedness, indigestion, loss of appetite, flatulence, or nerve problems like numbness, tingling, and difficulty walking.
Does Ompec 20mg Capsule cause vitamin deficiencies?
It can cause vitamin B12 and vitamin C deficiency. When taken orally, Vitamin B12 requires an acidic environment for absorption from the stomach while this medicine causes a decrease in gastric acid secretion. You may need to take vitamin B12 supplements along with it. The clinical significance of the decreased vitamin C levels is not known so vitamin C supplementation is not recommended.
Can Ompec 20mg Capsule be used in cardiac patients?
Patients with cardiac disease can take this medicine as prescribed by their doctor. However, it may interact with certain medications like clopidogrel and digoxin. These interactions need to be monitored closely under the supervision of a physician.
