Frequently asked questions
Can Omigold 20mg Tablet be safely taken with domperidone?
Yes, this medication can be safely combined with domperidone without any reported adverse effects. In fact, a fixed-dose combination of these two medications is available. Domperidone enhances gut motility, while Omigold 20mg Tablet reduces acid production in the stomach, making them a highly effective treatment for conditions like reflux esophagitis associated with acidity, heartburn, intestinal and stomach ulcers.
What precautions should be taken before taking Omigold 20mg Tablet?
You should not take this medication if you are already taking medications containing atazanavir or nelfinavir (used to treat HIV infection). Inform your doctor about any liver problems, persistent diarrhea or vomiting, black stools (blood-stained), unusual weight loss, trouble swallowing, stomach pain or indigestion. Additionally, let your doctor know about all other medications you are taking as they may interact with Omigold 20mg Tablet. If you have a history of allergic skin reactions to this medication, inform your doctor. This medication is not recommended for children under the age of 1 year or weighing less than 10 kgs. Pregnant and breastfeeding mothers should consult their doctor before using this medication to avoid any potential harm to the baby.
Can Omigold 20mg Tablet cause diarrhea?
Yes, diarrhea may be a side effect in some individuals taking Omigold 20mg Tablet. While it is usually not bothersome, if you experience persistent watery stools accompanied by stomach cramps and fever, seek medical attention immediately.
How long should Omigold 20mg Tablet be taken?
Take this medication for as long as your doctor advises. The duration may vary depending on your condition. Do not stop taking this medication without consulting your doctor first.
Can Omigold 20mg Tablet cause calcium deficiency and osteoporosis?
Yes, long-term use of Omigold 20mg Tablet can lead to decreased calcium absorption, causing calcium deficiency and potentially resulting in osteoporosis. This may increase the risk of bone fractures, particularly hip, wrist, or spine fractures. Inform your doctor if you have a history of osteoporosis or are taking corticosteroids (which can also increase the risk of osteoporosis). Your doctor may recommend calcium or vitamin D supplements to minimize this risk.
What are the long-term side effects of Omigold 20mg Tablet?
Prolonged use of Omigold 20mg Tablet for more than three months may result in low magnesium levels, leading to symptoms such as fatigue, confusion, dizziness, shakiness, or irregular heartbeat. If used beyond a year, you may also experience an increased risk of bone fractures (due to decreased calcium levels), stomach infections, and vitamin B12 deficiency. Vitamin B12 deficiency can cause anemia, making you feel more tired, weak, or pale, as well as palpitations, shortness of breath, lightheadedness, indigestion, loss of appetite, flatulence (gas), or nerve problems such as numbness, tingling, and walking difficulties.
Does Omigold 20mg Tablet cause vitamin deficiencies?
Yes, it may lead to vitamin B12 and vitamin C deficiency. Since vitamin B12 requires an acidic environment for absorption in the stomach, which is decreased by this medication, you might need to take vitamin B12 supplements along with it. However, the clinical significance of decreased vitamin C levels is not known, so vitamin C supplementation is not recommended.
Can Omigold 20mg Tablet be used in cardiac patients?
Yes, patients with cardiac disease can use this medication as directed by their doctor. However, they should be aware that it may interact with certain drugs (e.g., clopidogrel, digoxin) which might be used to treat underlying cardiac conditions. Patients taking these medications together need close monitoring by a doctor.
