Introduction

Omez 40 Tablet is best taken one hour before a meal, preferably in the morning. The dose will depend on your underlying condition and how you respond to the medicine. You should keep on taking it as prescribed even if your symptoms disappear quickly. You can increase the efficiency of the treatment by eating smaller meals more often and avoiding caffeinated drinks (like tea and coffee) and spicy or fatty foods. The most common side effects observed with this medicine include nausea, vomiting, headache, flatulence, diarrhea, and stomach pain. These symptoms are generally mild but if they bother you or do not go away, consult your doctor. Long-term use of this medicine may lead to an increased risk of side effects. Frequently asked questions

Can I take Omez 40 Tablet with domperidone?

Omez 40 Tablet can be safely taken with domperidone, as no harmful effects have been reported clinically. Domperidone increases gut motility, while Omez 40 Tablet decreases acid production in the stomach. This combination is effective in treating reflux esophagitis associated with acidity, heartburn, intestinal, and stomach ulcers.

What should I know before taking Omez 40 Tablet?

You should not take Omez 40 Tablet if you are taking a medicine containing atazanavir and nelfinavir (used for HIV infection). Inform your doctor if you have liver problems, persistent diarrhea or vomiting, black stools (blood-stained stools), unusual weight loss, trouble swallowing, stomach pain or indigestion. Also, tell your doctor about all other medicines you are taking, as they may affect or be affected by this medicine. Inform your doctor if you have or ever had an allergic skin reaction with this medicine. It is not recommended for children under 1 year of age or those with a body weight less than 10 kgs. Pregnant and breastfeeding mothers should consult their doctor before taking this medicine to avoid potential harm to the baby.

Can Omez 40 Tablet cause diarrhea?

Yes, Omez 40 Tablet may cause diarrhea as a side effect in some people. If you experience persistent watery stools that do not go away, along with stomach cramps and fever, seek medical help immediately.

For how long can Omez 40 Tablet be taken?

Take Omez 40 Tablet for as long as advised by your doctor. The duration may vary depending on your condition. Do not stop taking this medicine without talking to your doctor.

Can Omez 40 Tablet cause calcium deficiency and osteoporosis?

Omez 40 Tablet can cause osteoporosis (thinning of bones) by decreasing calcium absorption, leading to calcium deficiency. This increases the risk of bone fractures, such as hip, wrist, or spine fractures, on long-term use. Inform your doctor if you have osteoporosis or are taking corticosteroids (which can increase the risk of osteoporosis) before starting your therapy. Your doctor may advise calcium or vitamin D supplements to reduce the risk.

What are the long-term side effects of Omez 40 Tablet?

If used for more than 3 months, certain long-term side effects may occur. The most important of these is low magnesium levels in your blood, which may cause fatigue, confusion, dizziness, shakiness, or irregular heartbeat. You may also experience muscle twitches or irregular heartbeat. Prolonged use for more than a year may increase the risk of bone fractures, stomach infections, and vitamin B12 deficiency. Vitamin B12 deficiency can cause anemia, leading to fatigue, weakness, or paleness. You may also experience palpitations, shortness of breath, lightheadedness, indigestion, loss of appetite, flatulence (gas), or nerve problems such as numbness, tingling, and difficulty walking.

Does Omez 40 Tablet cause vitamin deficiencies?

Omez 40 Tablet may cause vitamin B12 and vitamin C deficiency. Vitamin B12 requires an acidic environment for absorption from the stomach, which is decreased by this medicine. You may need to take vitamin B12 supplements along with it. The clinical significance of the decrease in vitamin C levels is not known, so vitamin C supplementation is not recommended.

Can Omez 40 Tablet be used in cardiac patients?

Patients with cardiac disease can take Omez 40 Tablet as prescribed by their doctor. However, it can interact with certain drugs (e.g., clopidogrel, digoxin) used by patients with underlying cardiac disease. Patients taking these medicines together should be closely monitored by a doctor.
