Frequently asked questions
Can I take Omevic 20 Capsule with domperidone?
Omevic 20 Capsule and domperidone can be safely taken together as they have no known adverse interactions. A fixed-dose combination of these two medicines is also available.
What should I know before taking Omevic 20 Capsule?
You should avoid taking it if you are already taking a medicine containing atazanavir and nelfinavir (used for HIV infection). Inform your doctor of any history of liver problems, persistent diarrhea, vomiting with blood, unusual weight loss, swallowing difficulties, stomach pain or indigestion. Also, tell your doctor about all other medicines you're taking as they could interact with Omevic 20 Capsule.
Can Omevic 20 Capsule cause diarrhea?
Yes, some patients may experience diarrhea as a side effect. This is usually not serious but persistent watery stools along with stomach cramps and fever warrant immediate medical attention.
For how long can I take Omevic 20 Capsule?
Follow your doctor's instructions for taking this medicine. The duration may vary based on your condition. Do not stop taking this medication without consulting your doctor.
Can Omevic 20 Capsule cause calcium deficiency and osteoporosis?
This medicine can increase the risk of bone fractures by decreasing calcium absorption in the body, leading to a potential decrease in calcium levels. Inform your doctor if you have osteoporosis or are taking corticosteroids (which may also raise the risk of osteoporosis). Your doctor may advise calcium or vitamin D supplements for managing this risk.
What are the long-term side effects of Omevic 20 Capsule?
Long-term use can lead to: low magnesium levels (which can cause fatigue, confusion, dizziness, shakiness or lightheadedness), muscle twitches, irregular heartbeat. Prolonged use for over a year may increase risk of bone fractures due to calcium deficiency in the blood (especially hip, wrist or spine). Vitamin B12 deficiency can also lead to anemia and fatigue. Other side effects could include: palpitations, shortness of breath, lightheadedness, indigestion, loss of appetite, flatulence, or nerve problems like numbness or tingling and difficulty walking.
Does Omevic 20 Capsule cause vitamin deficiencies?
It may lead to vitamin B12 and vitamin C deficiency. The medicine can reduce stomach acid which affects the absorption of Vitamin B12, so you may need vitamin B12 supplements. The clinical significance of vitamin C deficiency is not well-established yet, and therefore no specific recommendations for supplementation are provided.
Can Omevic 20 Capsule be used by cardiac patients?
Yes, it can be taken under a doctor's supervision. However, this medication can interact with some medications used by patients with heart problems (e.g., clopidogrel or digoxin) and close monitoring is necessary.
